FullMetal Alchemist, if you haven't read it or are planning to watch Brotherhood (please read the manga first or at least read the first few volumes)

If you've already read FMA, and are a fan of Zelda, then read the Zelda manga, the art is beautiful and the adaptations are wonderful!

  • Monster: revolves around Kenzo Tenma, a Japanese surgeon living in Düsseldorf, Germany whose life enters turmoil after getting himself involved with Johan Liebert, one of his former patients, who is revealed to be a dangerous serial killer.
  • Oyasumi PunPun: A coming-of-age it follows the life of a child named Onodera PunPun, from his elementary school years to his early 20s, as he copes with his dysfunctional family, love life, friends, life goals and hyperactive mind, while occasionally focusing on the lives and struggles of his schoolmates and family. I've most recently completed Girls' Last Tour and it's about two girls in a post apocalyptic setting. They live in a massive layered city and are trying to reach the top to see if any humans have regrouped there. It's cute and bittersweet and also has a unique artstyle that I'm into!

The manga that I truly loved reading was Arisa by Natsumi Ando, and it was actually my first manga. It's like a young adult mystery suspense genre. But I was and still am absolutely obsessed with the series. It's about 12 books long but it was worth it. (^▽^)👍

If you're into unique illustrations( with a focus on form and utilising space emotively) I'd definitely recommend Houseki no Kuni aka Land of the Lustrous.

{Fun fact:  my name is kinda inspired by Phos. Except I am organic and contain phospholipids not phosphophyllite lol}

It is about a group of humanoid, genderless gems living on an island far in the future, when humanity is long gone, and the earth has additional moons. With the guidance of their mysterious sensei, they ward off attacks from bodhisattva-like beings from the moon, who they're told collect them for jewellery.

Phosphophyllite, the main character, is too weak to fight and not particularly good at anything. They want nothing more to be strong, and are willing to put themself in danger for it..

Its also got probably the only anime for which the CGI is a highlight.

tokyo ghoul is a really good starter, its not a massively popular one (though well known) so you wont see much drama on it and it has a decent fanbase im pretty sure.

although its a bit gorey with how they describe the actions of ghouls if you can't handle stuff like that..

i also heavily rec. my favs:

naruto + shippuden + boruto + two blue vortex (my main focus and love since the dawn of time (highest of the big 3 manga, 2nd to dbz) )

black clover (writer now only posts like 4 chapters a year sadly but its SUPER well written, also a good starter manga; near end of war/final arc)

mha (dont open the fanbase i only fw it because the war arc was mad cool)

kaiju no. 8 (good starter)

aot (never finished it, rec. the anime more so than the manga)

jjk (peak fanbase. literally best fanbase ever, currently biggest focus of the manga world + good starter)

(ill edit this occasionally :) )

Itihasa is a very good manga, although it's incredibly obscure and the only translation it has is... a little bad in some parts. Not enough to take away from the manga itself tho, you can still understand what's being said. It's also a very beautifully breathtaking work, with a "time before time..." plot. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves beautiful things!

Not sure if these have been posted but these are some of my favorites that i'd love to see more people reading:

- Bungle Call: Relatively new, release monthly. Boy wants to be a musician, forced to use his music powers for war. Amazing setting

- Witch Hat Atelier: Amazing art, amazing story, amazing characters. A masterpiece

- After god: Need more people on this. Amazing story and setting, peak lovecraftian gods. A good ammount of body horror, gets a bit freaky.

- Shimeji Simulation: From the same author of Girls Last Tour. A bit more abstract but very fun. Gay

- Gachiakuta: Recycling shonen

- Gakurakugai: Very bleach inspired shonen. Love the mentor girl. I feel like if it gets a good anime adaptation it will end up as like, jjk 2.

- Drifting Dragons: Like dungeon meshi, but about whaling(Dragoning(?))

- Otherside Picnic: One of my favorite yuris. The romance between the main characters is good but it has a really good setting. Also kinda lovecraftian. It's STALKER but lesbian.

- Land of the Lustrous: Finally, this one is a ride. It's all about change and i don't think i can say much about it. Just stick with for a couple chapters please.
