Forum: Web, HTML, Tech

So you got your websites, but your computer still looks like it's chilling in 2024, what's worse is that all the devices around your computer ALSO still look freakishly modern, but I have themes to fix this!

For all the PC stuff, I'm assuming you're using Windows 10-11 (some stuff works with 8 too), other OSes I know nothing about. (if something doesn't work for 11, make it look closer to 10 with ExplorerPatcher)

Also everything PC related benefits from poking around Winaero Tweaker, it has Old Shortcut Icons, Windows 7 Photo Viewer, and a few more things worth looking at.

Pre-XP:

Project 2k (modded Windows 10)

simpleclassictheme (Titlebar)

RetroBar (Taskbar)

OpenShell (Start Menu)

98 Paint

Classic Icons

98 Sounds

Classic Task Manager (applies to literally everything before windows 10)

classic volume slider

Windows XP:

Legacy Update (for Windows XP)

Windows eXPerience (modded Windows 10)

xfce-winxp-tc (themes, cursors, sounds, applications, and shell for xfce)

classic volume slider

Vista/7:

Extended Kernal (lets modern apps work on Vista)

Windows 10to7 (modded Windows 10)

revert8plus (windows 7 transformation pack for win 8-11)

BasicThemer5 (free alternative, kind of buggy)

Windows 7 theme (free alternative)
Aero10 for Windows 10 1903-22H2 (free alternative, incompatible with Windows 11)

StartIsBack (cost money, perfect 7 taskbar for 8/10, incompatible with WindowBlinds)

StartAllBack (cost money, same thing as StartIsBack but for 11, incompatible with WindowBlinds)

OpenShell (Start Menu, free alternative for Vista)

Vista Login Screen

Windows Media Center 7/Vista (installBLUE.cmd for the blue themed version, choose installGREEN.cmd

Please add Roytam's browsers, good option to browse the web on Windows 2000 with Extended Kernel or newer versions. You can find these browsers here:
http://i430vx.net/files/XP/RoyTam%20Browser%20Installer.exe
The official page is rtfreesoft.blogspot.com
Between these browsers, the most interesting (in my opinion) are Borealis/BNavigator (a fork of Netscape 5 with Html5 support), and Basilisk UXP for XP. Other important tool is Sound Manager
https://github.com/ORelio/Sound-Manager
This tool makes changing sound and adding/modifying Startup/shutdown sounds in Windows Vista and newer easier as it was in XP.
Regarding Android, you should add Belle Launcher (a launcher which is highly customizable and looks like Symbian), Launcher 95 (launcher with Windows 95 look) and RapidLauncherXP.

hi, added the netscape thing, but basilisk is already here, winaero tweaker can already change those sounds, belle launcher doesn't look really close to Symbian from what I can see, and those other two phone launchers make it look like a computer. thank you for the suggestions though!

To bad there aren't any good methods to restore the old google chrome layout.

There used to be a flag in google chrome to enable the old design but it's gone now.

The only thing to get the old chrome design is to use an old version of google chrome, chromium or chrome canary.

This is a link to download old versions of chrome or any browser:

https://www.browserstack.com/guide/downgrade-to-older-versions-of-chrome(Download chrome version 69 and below that to get old design)

NOTE:Some websites like google clouds are unsupported on versions of chrome that has the old design.

Also, there are methods to restore old google chrome context menus, settings pages and have the old blue gradient theme back)

Old chrome settings styles:

https://www.askvg.com/tip-restore-classic-settings-and-other-pages-ui-in-google-chrome/

Old chrome context menus(disables windows 11 rounded context menus):

VMOS pro does not have any type of bloatware what so ever,

It doesn't spy on you and it does a pretty good job at emulating old versions of android

You can even create custom ROMs with it.

You can modify the preinstalled ones and you can change the wallpaper, icons styles, more aswell as adding, removing apps.

Ex:

There is a preinstalled android 4.4 one and you want to make it look like 4.0,you can change the icons, etc to make it look like 4.0
