Millennials have mostly radicalized to the left so we are probably kind of ok

Why don’t we just agree to keep it productive and respect this space even if we do t respect all the views. Like, just keep the trolling to ourselves. We don’t HAVE to comment our negative comments. Let’s try to use it productively :)

I cannot lie, I loved the chaos that the Myspace forums were near the end, when the moderators kinda just disappeared. Trolling and earnest hatred and insanity were at incredible levels, but there were always many decent people having serious discussions and being funny and supportive of one another amidst all of that... it's kinda impossible to describe.
I'm not sad it's over though, or that something like that couldn't exist "nowadays", because man, there also was so much racism and anything else you could name, and I'm sure people did get hurt (if not it certainly wasn't for lack of others trying to hurt them). I met a lot of great people in that mess though, and I ascribe some of that it it being messy, too. I mean, almost everybody can be nice in an nice setting, but in a war zone combined with a burning asylum you really find out what people are made of ^^

It will absolutely be a dumpster fire and I am here. for. it.
I just hope we can keep it a dumpster fire that continues to respect each others' dignity and person-hood even in the flames of the chaos.

Just a Libertarian passing through... I personally like this sub-forum and so long as we keep things personable and not radicalized I can see this being a good thing,

These comments have me rolling! I wanna be a mod! Let's just agree to only post info from reputable neutral sources. No need to bring in the misinformation and conspiracy that is currently plaguing Facebook and Twitter.

I don't want this to be like facebook and twitter D:. I'm actually about to cuss every single person i follow on twitter to be honest. Be all like "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, *Points to Jinnicide since we follow each other on twitter i believe* You're cool" Hell i wish there was a place where political/religious discussions were banned completely.

I'm not even sure this subforum should exist, given that this site probably doesn't plan on having particularly strong moderation and staff presence.
They be asking for trouble.

I personally don't think it will be that bad spacehey isn't very old person friendly and they seem to be the worst ones about politics so I think it'll be fine

Political conversations can be difficult to have especially when you disagree with someone, but if you are mature enough to be respectful to each other, then you can have an open discussion. Sadly though I see a lot more of the opposite on other sites so I do worry that the same could happen here.

A little banter here is fine but...

If alt-right adjacent or the QAnon cult don’t migrate over, then normal forum discourse and banter over electoral politics or even political theory should be fine. I don’t think you can or ought to entirely clamp on arguments (unless they’re contesting someone’s personhood or some other cringy shit). Moderation ought to be in enough control to nuke any content which goes against the TOS. If it isn’t already, maybe a link to that ought to be pinned on the main forum index?

Time will tell, then! Maybe having separate forums for News and Politics would help keep more sectarian (mundane or serious) arguments in the Political subforum, and News could (ideally) be kept to sharing headlines and other day-to-day stuff. I also think appointing more folks as mods would be sensible to ensure a quick response if folks start harassing or bullying people; should be a no-brainer for all of the sub-forums tbqh.

Theres already a crazy right-wing lady on here posting utter bullshit. I'm not in favor of respecting inherently bigoted beliefs or anything thats just straight up stupid. Honestly I should probs keep my mouth shut lol

this is the burden all forums must bear. if you're lucky you end up with some older really smart users who can basically bully and outsmart all the belligerent assholes who come in and dont believe in peoples rights to live or have fair lives (or who may be supporting that system of belief whether they realize it or not)

At the current moment SpaceHey has less than 200, 000 members. - I think (and ONLY like 10 - 24 active daily/weekly users) so for the moment it's okay. . .But if this site EVER blows the f**k up and gains a lot of frequent users on a regular basis than this subforum will turn into a dumpster fire like Twitter and Facebook.

Thankfully people won't have to see posts in this subforum unless they actively come here. Even if this subforum will be a trash fire, the rest of the site will be isolated from it.

bringing in politics into any website will attract any internet disease. people love to waste hours typing paragraphs and arguing about bernie sanders or whatever, like what the heck just go outside and actually enjoy your life or something. a news forum would make more sense though i guess

I've already been reading through a couple arguments on here, pretty interesting, but surprising how people will start acting once their ideas are challenged. I try not to join in on anything, I'd rather just eat popcorn and read lol

Yup. It is the internet after all. This subforum will absolutely, inescapably, inevitably, devolve into a toxic and awful dumpster fire.

I mean, if we report the bad eggs for spewing hate speech, then it should be fine. However, I'm not certain of that.

It should be fine as long as we can keep everything civil. I hope we are all mature enough to do so cause everything else online has struck out so far even from the people who are supposed to be mature at their age.

I hate the fact that America's tribal political zeitgeist inevitability ruins all nuanced discourse. Hoping the mid 2020s will be more civil.

Personally I'm only posting if it affects me irl. I grew up bi under section 28 so obviously I'm not homophobic. I'm not racist either. I'm just tired of the expectation that the whole world has to talk about American politics, so I'm butting out of that.
