HOT OR NOT (survey from 2009).
Found on SpaceHey. Answers based on my own personal preferences. I cannot say with certainty what many of the world's opinions are, as I am an introvert and do not keep up with fads, trends, etc.
Warning: I am a curmudgeon, old, and never politically correct. You do your thing and I shall do mine.
1. Criss Angel: I have no opinion of him. I have heard the name but know little else. I do not think that I am missing anything.
2. Jessica Biel: I know next to nothing about her except that she wed Justin Timberlake and they made a couple of sons. She is okay looking.
3. big butts: Yes, if natural (no artificial fillers).
4. Corvettes: Sports cars are not my thing. I prefer an angular or boxy, more formal or practical vehicle (Mercedes-Benz, Saab, Subaru, Volvo, Volkswagen Bus, etc.) from the 1930s, '80s, etc.
5. detention: I do not have a major opinion about it. It is not a topic that I normally ponder.
I may have gone once, a long time ago, like in 6th grade or something for something very minor. I was a quiet kid who hated school (bullies / mean people, homework / studying, long bus rides, social situations, etc.) but not generally a troublemaker.
Many people like "The Breakfast Club" movie, which pertains to detention. I watched it once or twice. I did not care for it. I found it dark & strange, rather unpleasant.
6. Vin Diesel: I have not followed. He does not seem to be my type.
7. dressing / shoes on a dog: Nope, not my cup of tea.
I am not into dogs, most pets, the "fur baby" craze, nor humanizing animals. I am more of a cat person.
8. drinking alcohol: I am okay with responsible consumption of traditional beverages such as beer, wine, etc. There is no need for high alcohol liquids such as moonshine.
I do not normally consume it myself. I very rarely sip cocktails or sweet / dessert wines but prefer various kinds of soft drinks. The expense, medicinal taste, and physical effects are not for me.
I am vehemently against drunkenness and drunk driving. Anyone who is impaired behind the wheel should be severely punished and permanently banned (FOR LIFE!) from driving.
9. facial tattoos: Anyone who marks up her / his face is mentally disabled / stupid.
10. girls who spit: Why only girls?! Does the gender matter, when it comes to this sort of nastiness?! :O
Spitting is very vile and 1 of my major peeves! It is filthy, gross, unclean, unsanitary, etc.! I wish that there were a major crackdown on litter and spitting!
It is among the lowest of the low, completely & utterly disgusting.
11. guys who cuss a lot: Again, does the gender really matter to this topic?! :O
Cursing "cussing" / profanity is not a virtue. It is not valuable and should not be aspired to. I can understand doing so in a time of pain / stress but not for meaningful conversation nor "entertainment".
12. high school sweethearts: It is a beautiful / cute idea, when done right. I do not think that such relationships are for everyone, though, particularly ones that gravitate toward abusive, dysfunctional relationships. It is generally good to find one's soulmate young, as it gets harder to find a suitable mate past the early adult years. It is tragic when young women / couples are murdered by jealous partners.
13. Paris Hilton: Nah. I am more interested in the early history or practical details of the dynasty / empire.
14. jean jackets: Yes, I like denim, in some cases. It is a nice, casual look. I used to have at least 1 jean jacket. I have not had 1 in a long time. I would like to have 1 again. For myself, I would prefer a longer, more drapey 1, but many / most of them appear to be cut short.
15. Jonas Brothers: I have not followed, except for seeing occasional headlines. I am not familiar with their music / work. I would probably listen to them instead of harsher, heavy metal sorts of sounds but they woukd not be my top choice of music.
Being a fan of both age gap relationships and Indian (Bollywood, etc.) movies, I am more interested in Nick Jonas' wife, Priyanka Chopra. While many / most Americans had no idea as to who she was, I had already seen her in "Bajirao Mastani", an epic movie.
16. leggings: I have heard of / seen them being discussed but it is not a topic that I have pondered much. I do not care if people wear them, although I prefer looser-fitting garments. Depending on the physique and sort of blouse / top, leggings may look flattering.
I dislike stirrup trousers. That elastic band around the feet - No!
17. long hair on guys: In general, with few exceptions, I strongly feel that men should have short hair. I loathe dirty, stringy, unkempt hair on either sex but especially on males. Like, what is the appeal / point?! It certainly is nothing to brag about!
Sometimes, I wish that I or someone could hack off such messy hair! I love a 1950s style crew cut, especially on blonds!
Occasionally, guys with curly hair look good with stylish, flowing curls, such as Mick Hucknall from Simply Red, but those are exceptions.
18. marriages / weddings: Yes, but only according to Judeo-Christian or similar traditional teaching. 1 man + 1 woman for life. Separation is okay, if the couple cannot reconcile. Unless there is an exception clause, no remarriage while 1 spouse is alive. None of this 3+ husband & wife merry-go-round nonsense.
As far as ceremonies, make each 1 special but never go in debt. The actual ceremony is much more important than the festivities.
19. mini skirts: NO!!! I would never wear 1, unless there were an extreme clothing shortage. They should be banned by parents, respectable businesses, schools, etc. I prefer longer dresses (caftans, maxi dresses) / classic gowns, covering the knees to at least mid-shin but not past the top of the ankles ("tea length", I think is the term), to prevent tripping.
20. mustaches: It depends on the wearer. I am not a big fan but some men, such as Sam Elliott (the deep-voiced cowboy) and Tom Selleck look iconic / ideal with their mustaches.
The old-fashioned handlebar mustaches (1800s / 19th century style) are interesting to behold!
I prefer a clean-shaven look or manicured beard & mustache.
Females with facial hair should reasonably try to get rid of it. There could be an underlying medical condition, such as PCOS.
I, myself, have had to shave for many years. The hair is not dark nor heavy but it is undoubtedly there on my chin & upper lip. I would like to have laser removal someday.
21. myself: Generally, no. I am like stinky cheese, an acquired taste! Very few, if anyone, seem to get me. But that is okay. I am not here to be Miss Popularity. There is a higher path.
22. one-night stands: I do not advocate. They can be fun. But there are many losers out there, some dangerous. There are deadly diseases, too. Guard your heart. Find a better, harmless, more fulfilling pastime, instead.
23. online flirting: I do not advocate. Once the "Send" button is hit, that is it. It is done. Your words are in cyberspace forever. Try not to do regretful things. Keep it clean.
24. pierced cheeks: What?! :O Ridiculous! Like, why?!
25. pierced lip: No. People who wear them look like human fish! :O
26. pierced nose: When I was a teenager in the 1980s, I wanted a nose piercing. But body piercing was not a thing in my somewhat backwards / rural area, at the time. By the time that it became fashionable, it was no longer on my radar. Having experiences with ear piercing and an immune disorder, I am not longer interested in an actual nose piercing. Maybe I will get a fake nose ring sometime.
27. pink clothing on guys: It depends on the culture and the motive.
In some countries, such as India, bright colours such as pink are commonly used. In that sort of case, I am good with it.
However, if it is to portray effeminacy, I am not on board.
28. prom queen: Something that I could never be nor would want to. I am not into that sort of narrow perfection, cosmetics, fake smiling, hairspray, high heels, etc.
But different strokes for different folks.
29. public displays of affection: A chaste peck on the cheek or lips may be okay, depending on the location. But there is no need to act like wild animals in public! Be respectful of those around you.
30. rhinestones on clothing: Sure, why not? They were good enough for Glen Campbell ("Rhinestone Cowboy") and Porter Wagoner! ;) :D
31. ripped jeans: I have never understood the attraction. Again, I am into classic + comfortable style. It is 1 thing to have old jeans that naturally got worn down after years of use. But why would anyone purposely buy clothing that was purposely destroyed?!
32. scars: I must not understand the question. Scars? What do you mean by "scars"?! Hopefully, people are not scarring themselves on purpose! But 21st century people are not the brightest bulbs, obviously.
It is nice, if one can afford cosmetic surgery to hide such markings, or at least wear covering clothing.
I do not think that people with scars should be discriminated against. But they should be respectful and not nonchalantly or purposely flaunt / show off their scars to squeamish people. Not everyone likes to view such unaesthetic or troubling things.
33. school dances: With reasonable limits, they may be okay. They are good opportunities to grow from childhood to adulthood and learn how to mingle with the opposite sex. However, there are many pitfalls, snares, temptations during that transition. There are many obscene styles of clothing, music, people, etc. Chaperoning is needful. No bumping & grinding!
I think that proms nowadays are way over the top! They cost as much as weddings! Teenagers do not need to be that way.
I wish that proms today could be like cute "sock hops" of the 1950s, held in the school gymnasium, with a local band and a table of cake & fruit punch! :)
Being an introvert plus mostly attending a "holy roller" school during my adolescence and having an overprotective mother, I rarely partook in such events. That was not my idea of a good time.
Proms were forbidden at Praise Christian Academy. Instead, there were "banquets", which was dressing up & dining but without dancing & music. I was annoyed by it and found it ridiculous but others around me did not seem to mind. It was like the movie "Footloose"!
Elsewhere, I once attended a homecoming dance, in my senior year of high school (late 1989). I was rather uncomfortable, as I was not into dancing, dating, nor mingling. Funny, I recall "Bust A Move" by Young (now Old) MC! :D
Also, during my senior year of high school, I took my Uncle Todd, 2 years my senior, to my prom. I had a great time and still recall it fondly! :D I do not remember much about the dance itself except shopping for clothes and that it was held at Wheeling Park, I think either the Pine Room or Stone Room. Afterward, my mother, maternal grandmother, and maybe my sister had a late night dinner at Hardee's nearby! :)
I always find it alarming / sad that people skip their proms due to work or because they feel pressured / stigmatized by going alone / dateless. I think that people should try to go, even if they are introverts, as a prom is a memorable, once in a lifetime milestone.
34. skateboarding: That is not my cup of tea but it seems like a harmless & possibly fun way to burn off energy.
35. smoking: There should be reasonable freedom (not anarchy) for cigarette smokers. I do not believe in total banning of it. But good for people who do not take up the expensive, stinky habit. I have never seen the appeal of it and wonder why younger generations continue.
As for marijuana, I am 100% against it and disapprove it in all forms, including "medicine".
36. surfing: My answer is about the same as skateboarding, which is that is not my cup of tea but it seems like a generally harmless & possibly fun way to burn off energy.
I am not big on being in big bodies of water (lake, pond, ocean, river, sea, etc.) and I likely would never attempt swimming or surfing in 1.
I would much rather be in about 3 or 4 feet of chlorinated water in a swimming pool!
37. tattoos: Nope! Again, I do not see the appeal. I do not get why people are hellbent on defacing their bodies. It is like putting a bumper sticker on a limousine, Rolls Royce or stately automobile. Tattooing is the opposite of elegance. Plus it is not good for the immune system. I find tattooing low-brow / low-class & childish. If you want to draw / make art, use concrete, paper, or appropriate material!
38. temporary tattoos: If you insist on a tattoo, this is probably a better choice.
39. thongs: As in underwear, no. I much prefer full coverage by my Fruit of The Loom or Hanes "granny panties"! I cannot understand why someone would want cloth / string stuck up her / his crack like that!
As for thongs as in flip-flops, which is what reference word I have used, yes.
I used to wear thongs on my feet, when I was very young.
Nowadays, I wear Crocs. I also like the look of Birkenstocks or similar sandals.
For several years, my Uncle Todd wore them almost exclusively. We even bought him a bunch on sale, when a business was permanently closing! I have not worn them in many years.
40. tight jeans on boys: I dislike tight jeans or clothing on anyone. Comfort + classic style are key. I despise the "slim fit" suit trend. I do not get why men want to look like Pee-Wee Herman or human penguins! They look uncomfortable, like they cannot bend, breathe, eat or move!
41. Justin Timberlake: I have not followed him. I have never been into "boy bands" nor him / his music.
It is interesting that he has country music / Tennessee roots. The "Tennessee Whiskey" collaboration with Chris Stapleton was neat.
He seems like he is good at business / production.
I feel sorry that rabid people want to attack / bash him over things that happened a while ago or do not personally concern them, such as his past relationship with Britney Spears; Janet Jackson's boob; or holding hands with another woman.
