There are two artists that come to mind for me: Third Eye Blind and Owl City. My dad was listening to Third Eye Blind's first album and I remember him showing me the lyrics in the little booklet that came with the CD case. That cemented in my mind that music was more than just making rhymes, but also told stories.
Owl city was interesting to me because of a reaction from a fellow classmate. I remember back in 2009 our instructor would let us listen to whatever music we wanted, and she asked if we could put owl city's latest album on (ocean eyes, which released June 2009). The album was pretty good, but i remember her excitement when listening to Owl City. My favorite band released an album in the same year (Third Eye Blind's URSA Major) but i wasn't as excited and didn't even think of suggesting my music to everyone. She showed me not to be ashamed of the music you listen to, and to expand my horizons when it comes to music.
