I always thought I preferred science fiction like Jules Verne or H. G. Wells, but looking back over my GoodReads it seems to be historical fiction/survival fiction (Will Hobbes, Gary Paulsen) mixed with YA books I mostly read in school. It's hard to pin down for me lol

I adore collecting old novels. 1930s-1850.. I would not entitle it as a genre of itself, but they have a certain iconic characteristic I fawn over!

Agree with debleb, low fantasy's goated. I love watching a world slowly have to come to terms with the idea that the magical exists and how do people come to terms with that idea.
Also a big sucker for detective stories, Poirot and Sherlock are goats.

I'm pretty much open to any genre when reading books/novels, but I tend to read a lot more of literary/realistic fiction, works of translation, and historical fiction. when reading manga, I gravitate towards mystery/thriller (with a dash of comedy) and vampire-centric stories!

ive been really into splatterpunk recently. the stories those authors come up with.. I mean I don't know how far down into their soul they have to go to find them, but some of them are genius and ...unique is prolly the best word because they haven't existed before and they wont again

For me I CANNOT for the life of me only read one genre, I like for my books to be multi faceted and I prefer some sort of fantasy or mythology in it, mixed in with romance but not the smutty romance that we see all over booktok, I mean yearning romance, the type that doesn’t exist in reality. An actual literary masterpiece that can be written without having to have a sex scene involved.

I love reading dystopian books like the Hunger Games and Shatter Me. It offers me an insight of what our world could be or become. But, also the genre is so complex and you could do anything with an storyline and it'll have big impact. It's not just linear.
The genre challenges us to think outside of the box and especially for authors.
