Happy International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples, 9 August, 2025. 2025 Theme: “Indigenous Peoples and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping Futures”. This theme conveys the message that artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to protect the rights of indigenous peoples.

Of course, as we know that AI is risky and therefore we must use it appropriately and for good purposes. In this case, we can use AI to protect the rights of indigenous peoples. In fact, in the AI training process, input about indigenous peoples in the data sets should be included because mostly they are excluded.

If left alone there will be more and more biased or misleading information about indigenous people from AI. Technology, including AI, must be able to be used to represent cultural identities. Indigenous peoples around the world are now exploring AI, they expect that AI can represent them and AI must represent them.

Of course it takes time because the AI mechanism is complex especially the data that it needs. Data processing takes time and the data processed should be correct, precise, and in accordance with reality. Hopefully AI developers around the world understand this.
