fandomz/fanficz dizcourse!!

ive seen lotz of discourze about namely AO3 recently... namely people enraged @ the stuff on an archive. Yez, i think incezt is immoral, yez i think p3d0ph1li4 iz fuckin dizguzting, but when we start cenzoring archivez iz when freedom of speech diez!!! im not an OG fandom member of anything (i did see the great tumblr purge tho...) but selfcezt ships, ___bowl, and such, these r the people that created fandom spacez, fanficions, inside jokez, communitiez. don't like dont read is such a big thing that new fandom members (particularly anime fandomz) do not follow!! thiz haz been DAY 1 fandom ettiquette, no? yez the pairingz could be illegal + diztasteful, i agree with the sentiment, but cenzoring freedom of speech iznt okay. Legality DOEZ NOT mean moral, i agree with that wholeheartedly and i think people who write darkship content are immoral and need help but shunning and cenzoring them is never a good idea!!! i think thiz haz stemmed from the purity culture going on in fandom spacez and just the world in general. And another thing, PROSHIPPING doez not mean the same as dark shipping by any meanz; it meanz to support the concept of shipping overall. darkshipping iz illegal/immoral/taboo shipz. theze termz r being watered down SO MUCH!!! when they've meant the same thing 4 zo long, u cant just decide they mean something becauze of zome preconcieved notion YOU have about the word. I believe shipping iz zo important to fandom culture, dont like? dont interact with it!!! itz so simple!!! therez over a billion people uzing the interwebz, sum 4 lulz, sum 4 education, sum 4 fun, who knowz, but not ALL of them will share an opinion U have!!! everyone doez thingz differently, and az long az it iznt illegal there iznt much we can do about it im afraid.... sorry 4 the rant, thiz topic fruztratez me as an avid member of some of the...weirder fandoms (MHA,Haikyuu n such..). TEENAGE GIRLZ BUILT UR FANDOM PROBABLY!!! embrace the whimzier sidez and ignore the worse sidez, unlezz it startz getting illegal!! (thiz waz on my blog but i thought id put it here too to start a convo about it....)

a lot of outrage i see about ao3 is because they apparently don't have any rules against explicit rpf about real minors or characters played by child actors which is way over the line, i believe that people should be allowed to depict whatever they want to in fiction in whatever way they want as long as they can accept that people have a right to criticise and question it without advocating for the outright censorship of it of course (excluding pornographic artwork involving children real or not because that is illegal here and wildly disturbing, it's where i have to draw a line) but when it involves real minors or child actors it's moved past fiction... it might just be words on a page but those words are about a real person who's really underage

whilst i have my issues with pro-ship dark-ship pro-fiction (whatever it's actually called i see so many labels and they all just meld together in my brain) and personally disagree with a lot of it advocating for the censorship of works on ao3 under that umbrella is potentially damaging and also ridiculous when there's that rpf issue

Ah, this silly thing again.

Censoring AO3 would be antithesis of its existence and I stand by to have preservation of Internet of things. That being said, it doesn't prevent me from feeling disgusted towards the horrors they write on that website. If you flaunt your shitty kinks out in the public, and made it publicly available, I would rightfully gawk at your Ryan's World Cocomelon angst fic dead dove druggie AU or whatever like it was the circus

anyway, if you suspect someone is abusing AO3's ToS by hosting illegal stuff, you can email and report them about the offending post. at least, that's what I'll do

i don't really read fanfic so i haven't come across anything illegal on the site nor have i come across anyone who i think is using it to host illegal content but i saw some people complaining abt it a while ago on twitter so i sifted through their tos and there doesn't seem to be anything there prohibiting it... maybe i glossed over it idk but i'm pretty sure they did have explicit rules against sexual images of children fictional or not so i feel like the rpf thing would have been as evident if it was there
