Opinions on Japanese Folklore/Ghost Stories?

Japanese Ghost and Folklore have been inspired off of a lot of manga and anime! The ones I can currently think of are Death Note, with the Shinigami. Spirited Away's No-Face--and a more humerous anime, Ghost Stories (which btw you should totally watch).

What do you have to say about Japanese ghosts/folklore, and do you have any interests in them? ^^

i find japanese folklore awesome! the stories are so unique and i love hearing about em, my favorite one is the "slit-mouthed woman" yokai, a spirit with not so defined origin, with many interpretations. however, her behaviour is interesting, she usually walks around covering her mouth either with a mask or a scarf, and asks you if you think she is pretty, if you say "yes" she will reveal her huge slit mouth and ask "how about now?" if you still say "yes" she will slit your mouth to be just like hers, but if you say no she will kill you with her scissors.

a neat thing about this legend is that there are ways to escape it! like by saying you are busy going somewhere, trying to confuse her or just taking off and running!

i love these stories!

I really think folklore from east Asia, specifically the island countries like Japan, Indonesia, Philippines have some of the most interesting stuff imo. I watch this guy called "chass" on youtube who reads a bunch of 4chan/imageboard style site stories. His newest video is on Yokais (I think its spelt like that) and it's really cool.
