Is anyone else absolutely disgusted at the ridiculous amount of merch released due to the drop of the (most likely horrible) minecraft movie?

Here's a rough list of what has been dropped so far:

T-Shirts, 9 different designs for adults

  • Sweatshirts, 1 design for adults
  • Hats, 1 design
  • Plush Toys, 2 different characters
  • Vinyl Figures, 3 different designs
  • Blockhead Figures, 6 different designs
  • Block Worlds, 6 different designs
  • Chess Set, 1 design
  • Backpack Set,1 design
  • Smartwatch, 1 design
  • Sherpa Blanket, 1 design
  • New LEGO sets based on the movie were released on March 1, 2025.
  • Mattel, An EXTENSIVE line of toys and plushies inspired by the movie. (look at him dawg...)
  • An extensive McDonalds collab.
  • A limited-edition collaboration featuring Minecraft-themed Oreo cookies has been announced.
  • books, 4 different ones including artbooks, comics and a NOVELIZATION OF THE STORY.

This is only what I gathered and took note of

It’s truly astounding how much corporate greed can stretch a simple concept. Minecraft, at its core, is a sandbox game about creativity and exploration. But rather than respecting that spirit, they’re milking it dry with uninspired, mass-produced garbage. Does any one person (including what I assume is their target audience, children) want a vinyl figure of jackblack's caricatured mug?

And for what? The movie hasn’t even released yet, but the sheer volume of tie-in products suggests that even the studio that has been working on it for so ridiculously long doesn’t have faith in it.. They know the real money isn’t in the film itself, it’s in the merch blitzkrieg. Sell enough slop, and even if the movie tanks, they’ll still walk away with profit.

I can’t be the only one who finds this disgusting. Who actually buys all this? Are there really people out there clamoring for a Minecraft-branded smartwatch??? Are we so deep into consumer culture that people will throw money at anything with a le funny chicken jockey slapped on it?

The memes are most obviously forced, but I do have to admit that they are pretty well done.

Let me know your thoughts. Are you as tired of this culture as I am, or do you actually like wallowing in some of this slop?

P.S. Update me when they release the minecraft movie branded liquor so I can drown out the sorrows I get from watching it.

yeah, I watched it twice, once normally, wich was pretty funny, with all the buzz words, but it was very clear that the entire movie just made revenue bc of the chicken jockey meme, the second time i watched it me and some friends took some beers with us inside, and everthing was funny as shi, but yk, it's also kinda messed up to be tipsy in a children movie, but it's just like the mario movie and al movies based on games : filled with names from in the games to make it stick with people who played the games before (I played these games before!!)
