something i notice in anime [closed]

So i recently watched Nekopara, and I really enjoyed it. Coconut was my favorite character, but while I was watching, the realization hit me that often in anime, tan girls like Coconut are given more revealing clothing than the other more pale characters. Does anyone know why this is/have noticed this aswell? I really love Coconut and I would h8 it if the reason tan girls are often shown like this is for some creepy or fetishy reason.

Unfortunately, it is fetishization. Most times you see tan girls it's because they represent a type that either the author or company wants people to latch onto. Tan girls in anime are seen as "rough" and "mean" because of the large racism issue in Japan. Also Sayori designed all the np girls to drive into fetishes so it's kind of an odd anime to use lol.

some correction on the reply here. while it caters to some fetishes, it's not necessarily due to Japan's infamous xenophobia. It's just seemed to be exotic, it also plays on the gyaru-type of characters, mimicking American's boisterous personality. My other theory is, well, the character is active.

I, speaking as Asian and have been in sunnier climate, tanning is a sign that the character is active and sporty because they play in the outdoors. Sporty and active => confident => can speak their minds and may seem or sounded mean.

Folks who are confident and outgoing tend to be tanner in my neck of the woods.

Tbh, the industry is run by older, adult, males (who have outdated ideas about the world), catering mostly to a male audience -  so stuff like that is going to be prevalent, especially with "darker" skinned characters. Like in the US, some people fetishize/ over s*xualize us irl blk people, while they stereotype pale skinned people as "cute, innocent and docile/submissive, good girl", (and it's VERY annoying.) It's not surprising that such bs gets translated into media as well.

(This is why I - as a female Artist, choose to NOT follow that cycle, regardless of how many people support the misogyny and racism that Japan or anyone else pushes. Infact that was one of the reasons why I became a Manga Artist. If the Industry didn't want to change their ways, I would learn the skills and do it myself ie be the change I want to see.)
