Nightmares (and an ask for help)

for nearly three years now, I've had reoccurring, almost clinging dreams that always involve a large black snake. it could be the most normal dream, and there's always the snake. sometimes it kills me, sometimes it eats itself, sometimes its just there, but ive never actually figured out why.

more recently, they've started to merge with traumatic memories, creating less than tasty dreams, but im curious as to weather or not people have had similar experiences with maybe not a snake, but a similar dream-being. ive tried to do my research, but dreaming is so often disputed.

i have talked to a sleep specialist and a therapist about this, and they dont know. they know as far as the fact that the traumatic memories is normal, to dream about, but they arent sure of the snake.

if anyone has any advice, similar stories, or things to try i would be so glad to hear it

I have a snake. it represents my general anxiety, and, if you suffer from this, threaten it. Get up and get angry in its face. Anxiety attacks you and feeds on itself. Makes perfect sense, yeah?  You'll know you're winning when it gets smaller.

good luck.

The abstraction of traumatic events is part of coping with trauma, in my
experience. Not sure about the snake though. It swallows things whole.
It's suffocating. Is the snake venomous, do you know? Could be something
to do with the fear of your whole self being swallowed by more trauma?
I'm not an expert. Just an overthinking witch.

The Ouroboros aspect of it eating itself is
interesting. Infinity. The big black nothing that
swallows us all. Serpents symbolism is present throughout cultures
throughout history with varying meaning so looking into the mythology of
a culture you are connected to on Snake stuff could lead you to some
answers? Unless it's a scary penis? Snakes can kinda look like scary penises.

Either way, I agree you should confront it. The you in your dreams can access all the power of the multiverse against your adversaries that your waking self cannot.
