Extracurriculars + What looks good on a college application

Does anyone know any extracurriculars I can pick up to make my resume for college look better? I’m about to go in to sophomore year and can pick up a few extra things

it really depends on what kind of college you're aiming for. for example, i'm starting community college this fall and the only thing i needed to do to get accepted was to just fill out the application, show them my latest transcript (i applied during my senior year), and then finish high school. i didn't do extracurriculars my senior year bc i had no time to and i was still fine. unless you get a full ride scholarship to another school, i recommend community college bc it's a lot cheaper and if you're not sure what you want to do, you have more room to explore what you want to study if you don't already know bc it's not as expensive as a regular four-year college.

but if you want to go to a regular or prestigious school, it does just generally look good to do Something extracurricular. as far as i know it doesn't matter what as long as you do it, bonus points for multiple clubs. i had a friend that was very active in just the dungeons and dragons club and lgbtq+ club and got a full ride scholarship to a prestigious college (but of course i'm sure he had other factors that contributed to it). just do something you think you'll like! being in an extracurricular shows colleges that you're not just at school because you have to be there.

grades definitely also have a part in it too! especially if you take ap/ib classes bc they weigh higher in your gpa and give you can extra point or two because of the extra difficulty of the class. i personally only ever took one ap class ever in all of high school and it really wasn't that bad but it was also in one of my better subjects. not sure if your school allows it, but mine allowed us to select our classes for the next schoolyear and if by like the end of the first month of school you didn't want to take that class (or level of class) you could drop out of it and take a different one (so like if you took like ap english but feel it's too hard you can move to regular english).

volunteer work/community service looks Really Good on a resume too. my school had it as a yearly requirement that counted as a completion grade and from experience, it's not difficult to find volunteer work. my city has a dedicated site where organizations post about it but my city is p big so idk how it is where you live. i volunteered at this afterschool program at a nearby community center for two days a week (four hours a week total) to tutor middle and elementary school kids and overall help around. it was alright. i put up with it because it was a school requirement but i'm sure something genuinely fun and fulfilling could be found. also pro tip, a decent chunk of scholarships you'll want to apply to in college require community service and you talking about what it was like helping the community and stuff.

for now this is all i can think of. if you have any more questions about college or high school feel free to dm me ^^ !
