The Current State of Horror Movies

I would love to get the conversation rolling on the general consensus of the newer horror movies that have been coming out!

Psychological Horror has had some awesome bangers come out recently thanks to A21. Movies like Hereditary, Pearl, and Get Out have revitalized and popularized the genre. So much so that the newest Scream movie has poked fun at it lol XD

There have been some interesting Slasher movies as of recently, such as Happy Death Day, Ready or Not, Totally Killer, and X. I've been noticing a trend in the newer slasher movies (besides X), they don't seem to take themselves seriously/they don't seem to focus on the horror aspects of the Slasher genre. This can of course be a good and bad thing, camp is usually really fun, but I find that it's harder to get really invested when it feels like a movie isn't trying to be the slightest bit scary. Sometimes it just feels like a power trip for the Final Girl. What do you think?

Also, I gotta be honest: Paranormal horror has some great hits here and there but the genre is mostly filled with flops. Some examples are The Exorcist Believer, Tarot, The Nun 2. Paranormal horror has had some amazing films in the past (such as Paranormal Activity, The Babadook, and The Last Exorcism to name a few), but I really haven't seen any newer paranormal horror that truly captivates me. I've never really like the Conjuring movies either, so maybe the genre isn't for me. Do you think it's a me problem or do you agree that paranormal horror hasn't had any great hits recently?

Thanks for reading my rambling on current horror movies! I'm excited to hear yall's opinions!

Psychologial horror is so good; but most of those movies are only from a24 because it requires a lot of talent in screenwriting and scenography and it's a risky bet for bigger studios to take, Psych Horror is harder to do than just a bunch of screamers, which I think is the current state of paranormal horror, they try to be serious but it's just fake screamers during an hour to then do "real" ones during 20 minutes at the end.

I think it's complicated, Psych Horror is taking over, but again, they're harder to do right so I won't be surprised if, in the recent years, a lot of awful movies trying to be psychological horror pop out and degrade the genre, slashers are very camp, but honestly they've always have been, while there are fans who rather a serious and gore-ish movie, there's other part who is here just to watch blood, topless girls, and a funny plot trying to be serious.
