foreign films

What are some of your favorite foreign films?

What language and genre do you like to watch?
My favorite right now is Japanese horror but I also watch a lot of movies in Korean, Polish, German, French, and Russian.
For Eastern European and Soviet films, I recommend the websites -

i love experimental films and new wave movements from all over the world, some of my faves have got to be

iranian new wave (a moment of silence, close-up, the white meadows, willow and wind)
czech new wave (closely watched trains, happy end, diamonds of the night, daisies)
japanese experimental films (funeral parade of roses, the taste of tea, love & pop, the man who stole the sun)
and of course soviet/soviet adjacent art films (soy cuba, ivan's childhood, stalker, welcome or no trespassing, walking the streets of moscow, come and see, mirror)

i've watched noroi and i thought the found footage directing of it was good!!!

i love korean thriller movies the most but i enjoy watching foreign movies ^_^

some recommendations i have are:

the chaser (2008) - korean thriller about an ex-cop who runs a call girl service and he finds that they're going missing
exit (2019) - a korean comedy disaster movie! the city gets filled with this dangerous gas and the main charas try to escape from it
parasite (2019) - korean thriller, im sure a lot of people already know/seen it but its definitely one of the best kthrillers out there

kamikaze girls (2004) - japanese comedy movie about two girls (a girl who loves lolita and a yankee girl) form an unlikely friendship
flying colors/biri gyaru (2015) - a japanese comedy/coming of age type movie, i thought it was really sweet!

bad genius (2017) - thai thriller movie about highschool kids cheating on their exams (this makes it sound boring but i promise its a really good suspenseful movie!)
the raid movies (2011 + 2014) - idonesian action thriller movies! the action in these movies are really good (the first movie isn't so good storywise imo but the action is really good)

The style of this film's claymation was so beautiful and unique, I have truly never seen anything like it. I've watched this many times just to take in every bit of art, but in addition to the visuals the story, although heartbreaking at times, was also handled so well in my opinion. Overall amazing in every aspect!

I don't know what you would count as foreign to you but if you ever want to watch the best NZ film ever, watch Goodbye Pork Pie (1981) or the best AUS film ever CrackerJack (2002), undisputed best films from both countries

I've always been super into Swedish indie pop music so I'm trying to get into some Swedish films as well. I really enjoyed Patrik Age 1,5. I might also watch My Life As a Dog, as it seems right up my alley lol. I love coming of age films like that.

Cure(1997) is a monster of a film. Anyone looking for a chaser should definitely check out Audition(1999), Funny Games (1997) or maybe some of Atom Egoyan's earlier works (The sweet Hereafter, Exotica, The Adjuster). All foreign (to the us at least), all awesome psychological/sexual thrillers.

I don't keep track of what my favorite foreign films are because I watch a lot of them, especially Bollywood.

This is not Korean, French, or Italian...

But I really liked City of God (2002) and A Man Called Ove (2015).

A French film I really adore is Ma Vie De Courgette because it's clay animation, and I love animation of any kind.
