My name is Jessalyn, I use she/her pronouns.
Because of Winn-Dixie.
The Percy Jackson series and when I read them will always have such a tremendous part in my heart, however reading My Dark Vanessa and These Violent Delights absolutely altered my brain chemistry.
When I read extremely changes mostly just based on when I feel the urge to read.
It actually has not, although I had never really thought about it either. Now that the idea has come into my mind I honestly might start…
I do. I enjoy annotating however I’m for the most part extremely careful with books.
I’ll use bookmarks, pieces of paper, if I don’t have those I’ll just remember the page I’m on.
There is not. I actually really struggle rereading things.

Oh god no! I've been reading for so long! I guess my answer would have to be... hmm... The "Dick And Jane" books. The ones that are targeted towards new readers!
The
best reading experience you've ever had (I'm thinking this can extend
to not just being absorbed within a specific story, but the location you
were literally reading in and the ViBeS.)This is such an odd question! Perhaps anytime I have been reading while camping. It's so easy to get engrossed with the sounds of nature and no distractions!
When do you usually read? At home, work, while cooking, in the morning, noon, afternoon, before you go to bed...?
At home is where I do most of my reading. I keep trying to work in a dedicated reading time but it is not working out ^_^;. These days, when I go out (usually for appointments) I try to bring a book with me!
- Has
knowing the ending of a book (example, through spoilers or a movie)
ever made you decide whether you will read the book or not?Not that I can think of or name. An example, I have been reading the Hannibal series. I know how that goes, but I still read (and enjoyed!) the books.
Do
you ever leave "a mark" (deliberate and/or not deliberate) in your
books? For example, write in them, underline quotes, coffee marks or
food crumbs and etc.I LOVE marking up my books. I have recently started highlighting them and writing in them. I want to make the stories my own too. Leave my thoughts in the margins, let people know it was loved.
What do you use as a bookmark?
Anything I can find. I am not above the "wrapper as a bookmark" thing, or just dogearring pages. I do have a habit of buying cute bookmarks even when I know I won't use them...
Is there a book that you have read more than five times? If so, what is it?
While not 5 times (don't attack!), I have re-read "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton multiple times now since having it be a required read in middle school!

My favorite place to read is on airplanes! It's a place where nothing else is required of me and my only responsibility is to keep myself entertained until I get where I'm going! Planes are also so limnal, which just adds to the vibes! Buses and trains are like this too, but with the disadvantage of having to watch out for my stop! I've definitely on more than one occasion missed my bus stop after getting too engrossed in a good book!
When do you usually read? At home, work, while cooking, in the morning, noon, afternoon, before you go to bed...?
At work on my breaks, on public transit, at night when I can't sleep, in the bathroom, the list goes on and on!
Has knowing the ending of a book (example, through spoilers or a movie) ever made you decide whether you will read the book or not?
It hasn't stopped me from reading a book, but it can push it further down my TBR list. Like, it's still worth enjoying something even if I know where it's going, but maybe I'll read something that'll be completely fresh to me first!
Do you ever leave "a mark" (deliberate and/or not deliberate) in your books? For example, write in them, underline quotes, coffee marks or food crumbs and etc.
Oh food crumbs end up in and on all my belongings eventually! Lately I've been reading 99% ebooks borrowed from the library using the Libby and Hoopla apps on my phone because I know if I buy/rent a physical book it's just going to end up sticky and gross with food residue!
What do you use as a bookmark?
With ebooks I don't have to worry about this anymore, but on the rare occasion that I pick up a physical book, I use whatever scrap of garbage is closest to me when I'm reading!
Is there a book that you have read more than five times? If so, what is it?
When I was a kid in the depths of my weeb phase there were several manga I've read more than five times. Those books were expensive, so I had to reread them to get my money's worth! But as an adult, no. There are just too many good books out there I haven't read yet to go back and reread one I already know!

2. It was probably one of those phonetics books we read in primary school. (But of my own free will it was most likely something by Enid Blyton)
3. (This is a long story buckle up) So when I was around 13 my school implemented this compulsory reading list, where absolutely none of them were the sort of thing I'd like reading. Amd I'm all for reading to educate yourself and learn about the world, but the majority of the time I just want to escape with and enticing plot and character terms who I care about. So being forced to read books I didn't want to sent me into a reading slump- nothing too special except this one lasted TWO YEARS. And it was only a couple of months ago that I got the random urge to reread one of my old favourite series (mphfpc). I remember sitting by my window that entire day, and reading the whole first book in one go, which finally pulled me out of my slump and made me excited to read again. So that day was the best reading experience I ever had.
4. Usually before bed.
5. No. I usually try to read the books before I see the movies, but even when I do get spoiled I'm pretty good at making myself forget about it while I'm reading.

The first book i ever read is most likely Modo et la lune by Judith Hamel, though i think Yayaho, le croqueur de mots by Bruno St-Aubin is important to mention, if we're going to talk about the books i read at that age xd
It's hard to say which reading experience of mine was the best but the most memorable was probably reading 1984 when i was 15. i also still think about when i read (half of) the Léonis series by Mario Francis when i was 11-12. i only stopped because i wanted to read something else after a year, and also the next book in the series was out of the library.
i tried reading before bed but i just get so into it that i stay up way too late, so now it's just whenever. i particularly like reading outside and/or when i'm on break.
The ending of a book doesn't normally ruin the experience for me. i like reading old books that i normally discover by researching them before i ever read them. Besides, Romeo and Juliet is a lot more tragic when you know how it ends before it even starts- and that was standard of plays, once upon a time.
i always write my name and the year that i got the book on the back cover ("deuxième de couverture" in English, according to Google) because the chronology is fun x3 - i did spill chicken noodle soup in a book about prophets once though... and also there's blush in my copy of Volaire's Candide.
For bookmarks, i use receipts, or sometimes i make my own, or sometimes i use rabbit ears, if there are multiple pages i want to get back to- which i suppose is another way of leaving my mark on a book- and if it's for class then i might use a Post-It or something similar. However, one of my favourite things to do is grab my calligraphy pens and make custom bookmarks for the book i'm reading
Hmmm.... i think the only book i might've read more than 5 times was either a comic or guitar tabs, so does that really count for BookHey?

- I don't usually annotate or mark books, as I would like to keep them for my children one day. When I was reading 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky, I did underline quite a few quotes, as I was planning to give the book to my crush as a gift, but that didn't really work out.
- Often, I just memorise the page number.
- I try not to reread books. In my opinion, it wastes time that you could be using to read a completely new book. However, I do understand rereading books when you're in a reading slump. I often find that rereading my favourite book is the only way out of them.

I woke up at about 2am and decided to read to go to sleep. I became so engrossed I stayed up the whole rest of the morning reading. The silence and rain added to the mood of the book. - When do you usually read? At home, work, while cooking, in the morning, noon, afternoon, before you go to bed...?
School between classes and late nights/early mornings. - Has
knowing the ending of a book (example, through spoilers or a movie)
ever made you decide whether you will read the book or not?
No, but it ruins my enjoyment of the book and im more prone to drop the book then i would if i didnt know. - Do
you ever leave "a mark" (deliberate and/or not deliberate) in your
books? For example, write in them, underline quotes, coffee marks or
food crumbs and etc.
No, I try and leave my books in pristine shape. - What do you use as a bookmark?
I usually just remember the general area and pick up from there. Or I tear a piece of paper up and slip it in the book. - Is there a book that you have read more than five times? If so, what is it?
I've read multiple books a lot of times but I'd say my favorite is "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"

2. Ohh definitely not. But I did just finish Dragon of the Lost Sea by Laurence Yep.
3. I think just being so fascinated by a book that you literally cannot put it down. You take it with you while you go about your day and your eyes barely leave the pages.
4. If it's a physical book, in bed or on the couch. When cleaning or cooking I'll put on an audio book instead.
5. Not really? If I went to look for spoilers I probably already decided not to read the book. I've never had one spoiled for me.
6. No
7. A bookmark I got off Etsy based on The Hobbit and business cards I get from indie sellers.
8. No, I've read favorites several times but probably more like 3-4 MAX. I'd rather spend my time on a new book!

- I would prefer being called Delilah, my actual name has the same prefix but it can only be pronounced or even understood by people from the same country as me.
- If I exclude books like Diary of a wimpy kid or dork diaries, I would say that it would either be the Fault in our stars by John green or Bimbo and Topsy by Enid Blyton.
- I think it was when i read a Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, that book absolutely broke me, I couldn't even cry after it I was just staring at the wall in silence for an hour or so.
- I prefer to read whenever I have the time for it.
- not really, but knowing that the characters will die at the end does motivate me to read the book.
- Yesss, I didn't do it when I began reading books. but now I like making my books look like they've been read by actual humans, (Only the marking quote though, I hate he idea of any coffee or food stain in my books)
- Anything nearby, If possible I just remember the page number
- The Fault in Our stars(John Green) and The Prophet (Khalil Gibran)

- The best reading experience you've ever had (I'm thinking this can extend to not just being absorbed within a specific story, but the location you were literally reading in and the ViBeS.): Uh, I honestly don't know!
- When do you usually read? At home, work, while cooking, in the morning, noon, afternoon, before you go to bed...?: I haven't read in awhile, but the last book i read was read within 12 hours of buying it. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. It was my first time reading it and it was soooooo good!

2. I don't remember my first book but I do remember my most memorable, I was around 10 and my librarian at school gave me this book to read since I was very ahead of kids in my year with like my reading skill. The book was the fault in our stars, it was the most captivating book and I couldn't put it down. No I didn't cry but it was amazing, though I don't think I should have been reading that book at 10
3. the best reading experience I had was when I sat on this secluded hidden cliff that overlooked the ocean (you had to hike to get there) I went alone and brought, snacks, blankets and books. I stayed there for hours just soaking every page in of my book that I was reading (I don't even remember what book but the vibes were amazing).
4. I read normally really late at night or on the train, I rarely have time to read anymore since I'm in my second last year of high school and have nearly 8 classes on my plate, 2 extension classes and extracurriculars (dance, debating, public speaking and more) and work.
5. lwky gonna skip this one
6. I will never ever ever write in my books, it feels to morally wrong. I'll use sticky notes to annotate that's it.
7. I use anything as bookmark, I literally used an empty box of Panadol once to hold a page for me.
8. the only book, ive read multiple times over was a book I read as a kid... I think its called the accidental princess, I know it off by heart
anywho yes that's me!! hope we can connect over books 📚

- Hi all! Please call me Eli and I go by They/He pronouns.
- I do not remember the exact first book I read, but one of the earliest books I read was The Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. I loved the artwork and its style.
- Reading with smooth piano bar jazz playing at night with the rain against the window, just totally absorbed within the world of whatever I was reading -- probably some fiction adventure story.
- I usually read either between classes at school, or at home when I'm in the mood.
- Sometimes I actually prefer to know the plot of the story first, unless its a thriller or something, so I can better enjoy the literary techniques and foreshadowing.
- I am a big fan of annotating books, I think its a very beautiful thing to do and encourages active reading and re-reading. It can be very sentimental to pass-down books that have your thoughts and views in. I have my annotating system at the bottom -- though its likely to evolve and change.
- I'm one of those evil people that dog-ears the page corners (not in borrowed books though)
- Not yet, but I hope one day I'll find a good philosophical book I keep re-reading, maybe The Art of War or Conversations with Socrates or something like that. Not knowing what will become my re-read book is very exciting!

- Do you remember the first book that you read? I actually don’t, i started reading at 4 so it’s quite a long time ago!
- The best reading experience you've ever had (I'm thinking this can extend to not just being absorbed within a specific story, but the location you were literally reading in and the ViBeS.) I sometimes go outside with my best friend and just read in the shade of a tree in the park nearby, I love that a lot.
- When do you usually read? At home, work, while cooking, in the morning, noon, afternoon, before you go to bed...? Usually before bed, sometimes at noon when I have free time, and on free days I like to stay in bed a little longer and read in the morning.
- Has knowing the ending of a book (example, through spoilers or a movie) ever made you decide whether you will read the book or not? Not necessarily the ending, but some books I decided not to read if I didn’t like the plot or anything in the movie, or when the movie adaptation was particularly bad HAHA
- Do you ever leave "a mark" (deliberate and/or not deliberate) in your books? For example, write in them, underline quotes, coffee marks or food crumbs and etc. Depends on my mood, but I sometimes like to annotate my books with pens and maybe markers, and stick tabs in them. I only do that with paperbacks, tho, my hardcovers are to expensive for that!
- What do you use as a bookmark? The closest piece of paper in reach, a receipt maybe and I’ve useda tree leaf once when I couldn’t find anything else.
- Is there a book that you have read more than five times? If so, what is it? Wise Child by Monica Furlong, I’ve loved that book a lot when inwas a kid and I kept coming back to it when I couldn’t decide on what to read.

The first book I ever read [on my own] was Green Eggs and Ham - by [you know who]. The best reading experience I've ever had was reading in my bed during a storm while a storm was simultaneously happening in the book. I usually read in the evening or at night, either at work or at home. Knowing the ending of a book usually discourages me from reading it, but I make exceptions.
I try not to leave marks, especially because I mostly read books I get from the library, but accidents happen, of course. I use a variety of bookmarks, most of which are DIY'd. Currently, my favorite is orange :D. There is no book yet that I have read more than five times, but when it happens, it will likely be a nonfiction feminist book.

1. Hello! I'm Adroa (she/her)! I'm new to this site and really excited to be here!
2. The first books I read were part of a "learn to read" collection for kids. It included The Fat Cat and Dog in the Fog. I can't find them online which is crazy! I hope I still have them for historical archives. I wouldn't want the world to forget about them :P
3. I can vividly remember being in highschool, the summer after grade 9, when I took an extra credit summer school course. I would take the bus down to an old catholic school with high ceilings and echoey hallways filled with other kids that terrified me for no particular reason. Every day at lunch break I would walk a few minutes to this tiny public library that was always closed and I'd sit under a tree with a hot chocolate and a book and it was the most peace I'd ever felt. I can't even remember the books I read, I just remembered being so absorbed and enchanted by the fields and trees and bugs around me. I had never felt so independent and grown up before that.
4. I tend to read on the bus! Any sort of commute is the perfect time to read a few pages (in theory) (often I dont register anything lol). I used to have a habit of reading for 15 minutes when I woke up but that's hard to sustain. I'm working on it though!
5. With literary fiction I like to know the premise of the plot before I read the book. I tend to do a bit of research about the author and the context it was made in. I think it helps to get a clear picture of the themes I should be focusing on and the devices used to prove the authors points. I like to read the last sentence of a book before I start it! With genre fiction I like to go in knowing nothing. It's a lot more fun to be surprised by every page!
6. I'm very rough with my books! I'm a literature major and I like to write my lecture notes inside my books right next to the textual evidence lol. I also like to write about a few specific themes or questions while reading so that they're easy to access when I reread. No crumbs though! Dirt is fine, ink is fine, crumbs freak me out haha
7. I haven't used a bookmark in years! When I get a new book I crack the spine after each page I've read so that the pages I've finished stick up a bit. If i accidentally start reading a page or two earlier than i left off then it's a nice refresher for me! I also dog ear pages that I've written a lot in or that I feel like I'll come back to.
8. I've read The Idiot by Dostoevsky a bunch of times! Often I'll read through half of it then forget about it for a few months and when I return to it I restart (and occasionally that cycle repeats itself a few times). When I was a kid I read each of the Harry Potter books over 10 times. Ive always found rereading comforting :P
I'm looking forward to reading through all of your posts and recommendations! I'm sure I'll find some amazing new books to read through this group! ♡

2. Not the first book I ever read, but my first chapter book was Matilda (yes, I was convinced I could achieve special mind powers through reading)
3. In my bed, tucked under the covers reading Dork Diaries for the first time in like 5th grade.
4. I read literally anywhere I get a spare moment. Genuinely everywhere. I've ripped bags before from carrying too many books with me /gen
5. Yeah, I couldn't read the last divergent book when it came out (my friend gave me mad spoilers and I decidedthe ending sucked)
6. Yeah, so long as they belong to me. I'll write in them, draw, or annotate them. (I also used to dog ear my books in middle school, so all my Rick Riordan r missing the corners of pages)
7. Whatever is available. I've used many MANY strange items.
8. Yeahhh... Percy Jackson & the Olympians, The first (and only the first) Divergent book, Dork Diaries, Hunger Games, and Matilda. These books just have a lot of meaning to me because of when I read them.
