Topic: Are you here to “boycott” modern social media platforms? Or are you here because you’re obsessed with the 2000’s aesthetic?

i used to use other social media platforms, but i realized how awful it was for my mental health, so i've been off of it for close to a year now. however, i did enjoy the aspect of having a sort of "public diary" where people can peek in and see what im up to. i had used this site a long time ago as a joke but i think its really cool now! im not constantly bombarded with what other people are doing with their lives, but i can go see if i want to. its like we all have our own little islands, and we can visit whenever we want to, but we're not obligated. i don't know, it just feels nice

boycott mostly, though i absolutely missed the old forum aesthetic and layout from my early online days XD
aside from all my negative feelings abt modern social media, it also just goes too fast for me. i would usually walk away from socials after wasting a few hours, then i'd be sad abt whatever the new discourse is and have a migraine bc i'm processing too much too fast lawl!! i can hardly even watch youtube vids while doing smthn else anymore bc my brain gets too tired. so i deleted all my socials except here and youtube (and neocities if that counts??), and im working on using youtube less too bc i'd like them to not be such a shitty company
tl;dr: social media hurts me physically wtf

this, i'm here to escape modern social media. early 2000s internet is so cool, especially sites like MySpace which lets you customize your whole profile (which this site has anyways).

MySpace just seems funner idk
It's cool to be able to customize more than a pfp and a banner.

Perhaps both? My whole reason for being on SpaceHey originally was just to enjoy the aesthetic of being in the 2000's, an era that I was too young to enjoy at the time. But the more I spend my time on here and after writing my first few blogs and dare I say, BOLDLY interacting with any account I find interesting, I find that it's also become a way for me to detox from socmed.
It's not exactly boycott, as I still use Instagram, Twt, Discord, you know it, but it's also some kind of an escape for when those platforms become too much I can always go on here and find it to be a more calming and peaceful atmosphere. One where I don't have to pretend who I am online and which personality I pose as.
As edgy as that may sound lol.
SpaceHey has become a sort of space for me to express my thoughts to others knowing that I won't give one flying fuck if someone decides to hate. It's as easy as hitting the block button and relaxing.
(Plus looking for layouts and learning HTML is super fun!)

I wouldn't say boycott as that's a pretty definitive way of going about social media. But I did join out of nostalgia first, I wanted to explore a slice of the old internet again but now I'm using it as a an actual social media of sorts..kinda lol. I mean I still use my discord and such but one of the things I love here is no advertisements. No algorithm to follow my clicks and interests so it can advertise to me more effectively, there's something very valuable in a website that just let's you be.
It's just lovely to have this old style website here and the fact that so many people are here enjoying it just says a lot about how people feel about the current landscape of social media I think.

mix of both tbh. like, i hate modern social media as much as the next person-who-remembers-the-early-2010s, but i also just love the idea of existing in a digital time capsule like this.

I'd say both. Modern social media is pretty bland, and I have fallen in love with the 2000s aesthetics since I was a young teenager. It never gets old here

I'd say mostly for the aesthetic and finally try to have some online interactions. I noticed that I'm reaally awkward online due to fearing of not being "funny" or "relatable" enough?? Besides I can personalize this space wayyy more freely than in other social medias.
I've also been wanting to have a blog for a while now! Specially for the times where I feel like yapping a LOT that I cannot do it on my wsp storys anymore lol.

I truly want to delete my instagram and my facebook accounts but theres just some type of anxiety that I get thinking about it because it's like what am i going to be missing out on but then i think and im not gonna be missing out on more than i already am doom scrolling all day. I want to be able to use spacehey as an alternative platform that doesn't have such crazy standards and "rules" on how to be online. Hopefully one day i'm able to totally get off of social media but im not too sure if i'll be able to. It's also crazy to think that really all i've known has been the internet. I've been chronically online for about 10 years now and the irreparable damage it has done to my psyche is insane.

I am totally down for boycotting modern social media platforms! I've been around since about 2013 and things feel so phony now :(
It feels like intellectualism is dead. Like human connection isn't the point anymore. Like we're all just performing.

a mix of both. I was only a toddler in the 2000s so I didn't get to use MySpace, and also hate everything related to mainstream social media and the oversimplified aesthetic attached to it.
TikTok is utter bullshit and I'm disappointed that all my classmates are addicted to it

Both I would say, as much as I would love to delete all modern social media and use simple websites likes this its too difficult to do that :( most people communicate on Instagram or Twitter or things like that. It would be hard to make more social connections with others cuz not everyone got a spacehey account lol. But its nice to come here, it feels like a personal blog where I don't have to post a picture and try to look good but rather just talk about whatever I want.

In all seriousness, the internet has become so sanitized. Nothing really feels genuine anymore and everyone is always interacting with each other ironically or just with toxicity. I, also, despite how I can't go 5 seconds without figuring out one of my favorite content creators is a creep or pedo. (Like it's important to expose these bastards and their abuse so that it won't happen ever again but holy shit, I'm trying to use the internet as an escapism broski!)
It's probably the nostalgia talking but things were just much better when they were simple and not oversaturated with ads and people trying to constantly one-up each other. I don't even use most social media sites. I've only got YouTube and Pinterest but all the stuff from other sites gets reposted there and it's all just so tiring.

my personal problem with mainstream social media is the sanctification of popular people
i like to know that people around places like these are people like me, just people living their life with no colorful clickbaity thumbnail to separate them from "the crowd". being tiny is cozy, that's why i'm here !!
