It was around 2020 when I really started to involve myself in goth things. Since I didn't have to go outside, it was easier for me to express myself. Also, due to the immense amount of free time I had, I could spend weeks and weeks listening to goth music, ordering gothic clothing, researching about gothic culture, etc. In 2021, I kind of stopped because ... yknow, dressing goth in public was something I'd never done before. But now, I'm comfortable wearing full black outfits wherever I am!

that's cool! you should never be afraid of what people think, it's good to step out of your comfort zone. people who'd judge you for it aren't people you'd want appreciation from anyway!

I started being interested in the goth subculture in autumn last year but i've only called myself a goth for like 4 months now :P it kinda sucks tho because my parents are really strict and im not allowed to dress goth at all - not even DIY :(

I totally understand that, my parents wouldn't have allowed me to dress in goth fashion if I had told them I wanted to. my advice is to very slowly start building your wardrobe, start with basics that rely on you pairing it in various ways to convey a particular style. basic black clothing is the obvious choice, but if your parents have a problem with you wearing an all-black outfit, you can pair the black item with another dark color. they'll be slowly getting used to it as you also get older and gain more independence

Nice, I also had a tendency to like dark things overall as a kid and so it didn't take much for me to get into goth

I started getting into goth when I was 11 (so about 12 years ago). I've listened to artists both new and old. I tried to dress gothic when I was 13 but my egg donor (who had just re-entered my life after not being there for 13 years and started thinking she could call the shots) shot that down. I'm currently trying to build my gothic wardrobe.

Last year, when I ran across Twin Tribes, I wanted to hear more like them, and I wanted to know whether they counted as a "goth" band or not, so I listened to a lot of videos about the subculture. I'm not so tight about definitions at this point though, haha

Years ago, I discovered Creature Feature (The band, not the movie thing), and it totally clicked with all my other music tastes and my general love of the Halloween style of things. I've been trying to implement it into my life ever since!

I also got into goth around the same time :0 I believe around maybe late 2021 I was introduced thru the cure and then around mid 2022 I really got into vkei. my interest in the goth scene was very lowk up until now so I'd still consider myself a baby bat bc I just started listening to other goth bands such as Bauhaus (pls give reccomendations for any goth bands/songs :o )

well, I was introduced to it in late 2020 and was alternative back then aldready, but that sort of died out after a while. in 2022 I started listening to Lebanon Hanover and Sisters of Mercy, but only really became goth in autumn 2023. i honestly love being goth so much and wish I would've realised this much earlier.

My dad used to blast bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode. I fully got into the music when I was 14 and started "dressing goth" when I was 15 :)

I was always a loner as a little kid, then got into being a skater, and wearing all black, and skulls. Then my mom showed me the Metal Band H.I.M and other goth and metal music and we started our Goth journey together going to all ages goth clubs when I was 13.

A couple years ago, probably 2018/2019 but i live in a conservative and at that time i was too scared because i wasnt ready to talk to my family about politics. I recently here last year came out as goth and wlw, so now we talk about politics a lot but hey i got all my cousins and my aunt and uncle to no longer be conservative since then (i will fix this family trust🙏)

I was getting  bored of listening to the exact same artist 24/7, so my dad introduced me to goth music.

Right after I got bored of my style and wanted to change it, since my old style was all about hiding my body and myself (i started wearing such clothing when I was insecure and being bullied a lot.)

Now im a babybat.

I first got into goth culture when I first started getting into bands like Sisters of Mercy, The Cure and Rose Garden Funeral Party. I really enjoy the fashion and community built around goth culture and I've just felt so comfortable in it compared to other fashion/music subcultures

i actually havent kept track of when i first got into the gpth subculture...somewhere around mid to late 2024. i started listening to the essential goth bands such as the cure and the bauhaus and my dad showed me fields of the nephilim. aside from music, i ADORE the makeup!! its so pretty and cool and i love seeing everyones different ways of doing it. my parents r kinda strict with goth makeup tho but im slowly easing them into it (meaning i finally got to leave the house in black lipstick after months of owning it lolz). i do look forward to learning more about the culture in the future ^^

Even though at 12-13 this subculture caught my attention. When I was 16 years old I really got in.

It wasn't until then that I considered myself a goth.
