THE YT2009 FRONTEND IS INCREDIBLE

Forum: Web, HTML, Tech

(more stuff like this here)

(video showcase here)

Hi! Recently I was given permission to show off some of the cool features of the YT2009 beta!

First, they have

YOUTUBE XL

Can you tell me, in confidence, that you have seen ANYTHING with a functioning XL?? fulptube maybe, but NOTHING ELSE! that's not even the start of the impossible things this frontend does, because second there's

ANNOTATIONS

technically you can get these back on proper youtube, but DEFINITELY not like this!

also!

IT'S GOT THEMES

(URLs will need to be edited to work with your instance of choice)

if you can't tell, the themes are

what I didn't show is all the watch pages changes that come with some of these themes, but I hope you can imagine them

ALSO! you can get userstyles from 2009 to work with the frontend! I haven't bothered showing them off since they're barely relevant, but I felt like adding!

but what is a good 2007 or 2010 theme without an

ERA ACCURATE PLAYER

(requires flash)

The players they have currently are

  • 2006
  • 2007
  • 2007 ad player
  • 2010
  • 2009 dark mode
  • 2012 (not on the list)
  • 2009 (default)

you can also patch your own flash players to work here too!

this is all well and good, but you probably want to hear about the functionality, right? no? well you should still read, this stuff is wicked

FLAGS

you want to watch only old youtube videos?? yes? then turn on only_old. no? then don't!

you want the upload date to show up as 2009 for newer videos?? how about every video? well you can do both!
you want wayback features, what ever that is? it exist! and it rocks!
you want to turn annotations off for some reason? you want to enable the shows tab?? you want to simulate logging in??

ALL OF THOSE ARE OPTIONS!

IT'S OUT RIGHT NOW

here is the source code. yt2009 is built for selfhosting like Rehike, however public instances are possible, if one's available it will be linked at the top of the page.

thank you very much for reading!

TO ROD: this is not out yet, so all the themes are also private, sorry

TO NINERET: while you won't be able to customize your channel (at least as of right now) there will be channel colors, there's a few flags involving those even

TO TUFFGHOUL: yeah this thing is secure from what i can tell, if there were some security issues the huge nerds in the OIC would get that called out in hours so I'm pretty sure it's safe

You have no idea how much I needed this as a frontend for YouTube in lieu of BitView, not saying that Bitview's bad, but I'd love to use YouTube in a 2009 frontend to fit with my Windows XP (10) desktop. I wish I was there to test out as well but I guess I can wait until then. :>

hi! glad you guys like it!

these are not my themes though, me and BoredWithADHD helped with the 2008 one, and VKNIGHT did the 2006/2007 one, but tai7k did the rest of them

no, the themes are sold seperately

(Not actually sold!)

i mean that people have to make the themes and then you have to install them like you would youtube 3.0 to 2.0 or Cosmic Cat, it comes as late 2009 and then everyone else has to make themes for it

You can also get the icon directly from an old version of FF and then use reshack to swap the icons into the new FF.

yes it will be open source, and it would probably stick around a long time even if it wasnt.

if google cared that much then there would be no bitview, no cosmic cat, no cleantalk, nothing
