Hello! I am also in my early 20's (22) and working as a professional freelance musician for video games, content creators, or really anyone who needs it!
It's awesome to hear you've been able to find some motivation lately and start developing a sound! It's super hard to make that work when you spend a lot of time working. Finding motivation tends to only get harder the more you work. I urge you to keep with it, develop some good habits, and maybe try to make something every day! Even if it's not great. Just getting in the rhythm of making music will keep it manageable and doable even when you have work and life to tend to.
I used to be really bad with motivation and habits. For a long time, I'd make maybe one song every other month or so, and then take another month or so to recharge and re-motivate. I had a really hard time sitting down and staring at a blank project and starting something new. I eventually started freelancing though, and it started out slow, with very sporadic orders and large gaps in between. After a couple months though, orders started to pile in and I was making music just about every day. Eventually, a couple songs a day. With deadlines and clients, I had no choice but to do it, even if I was feeling burnt out or demotivated. I made some rough tracks here and there, but since my pricing was still cheap at the time, nobody noticed, haha! Over time though, it became easier and easier to sit down and start a fresh track. These days, I still frequently make anywhere from 3-6 client songs a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. I also have a bunch of personal projects brewing on the side, so now almost every day I am working on new music. Motivation is no longer a chore or a scary issue! Making music is just a matter of sitting down and doing it.
Rambling aside though, point is, if you push yourself to make something every day, even if you don't like it or don't want to, it will make music production a much easier task to start on! Then once you're in the zone, it should be smooth sailing.
Anywho, I'm glad to hear you've been finding a groove. I urge you not to lose it! Keep on creating! Also! I'm working on putting a group together here on Spacehey for musicians to share their stuff or connect with other artists to collaborate. I'd love to see you there and check out your stuff!
Here's that: https://groups.spacehey.com/MoS
Keep it up, and I wish you the best on your journey!
