I find the three fold law to be remarkably similar to resembling
"the golden rule" I was taught in Catholic school. To treat others how
you want to be treated is a law that's found in multiple religions
worldwide including but not limited to Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism,
Judaism, Taoism, and more.
The three fold
law, to me, is this rule of respect to others being reflected in Wicca.
It can be found more directly in the Wiccan reede!
"Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill; An ye harm none, do what ye
will."
All that being said, the golden rule
does have it's place in my own personal philosophy! The three fold law
is something I want to set an example of, in a certain context.
It's
also my belief that putting out negative energy is more than just
feeling negative feelings. Our emotions are natural natural, a survival
instinct meant to tell us what's good or bad for us. I learned this
through therapy and have since grown to accept and soothe my negative
feelings instead of compounding them, which I consider to be a positive
action.
I also find that the ideal of "bad
things only happen to bad people" is absolutely destructive. Basing our
own morality on things we can't control is just asking for a crisis of
identity! You'll drive your will to live into the dirt with a philosophy
like that, I've learned through experience with that, too.
So tl;dr
I
like the three fold law and try to keep it in my mind when I'm agitated
or faced with a tough decision! It helps me remember that my actions
affect others. I like having a positive influence on others I care about
because that energy ripples and just makes life more beautiful even in
the more mundane moments
