Heading to highschool

I'm going to highschool in September, I'm planning on taking art classes but I'm not sure what to expect, does anyone have any ideas what it'll be like? The school has extra art programs that have limited spaces, I don't want to be unprepared when it comes to this. I've been keeping a casual portfolio and I'm wondering if I should start to put together a more "professional" version for those school programs.

hi there !

i’m a senior in high school applying for college , so i understand how scary the change can be and not knowing what to expect .

however , if you have the chance to tour your high school , please do !! it will help you in the long run and you’ll know where to do .

a difficult task you might have to overcome , if not already , is locker use . all the lockers i’ve ever used i’ve had to turn three times , go to my first number, then pass over the second number , go to the second number , then go to the third number . depending on your high school , it might be hard to find ur locker amongst the many others , but eventually you’ll remember where it is and remember your code !! i suggest writing it in ur notes app on ur phone if possible

the schedule change is something you’ll have to adjust to . whether you get up earlier or have to catch the bus at a earlier time , it takes time to get used to. don’t feel bad for missing your bus or not knowing where your bus stop is . personally , i suggest getting a ride to school in the morning and then seeing what bus number you have , then riding home on the bus on your first day if you don’t know where your bus stop is . but this might not rlly apply to u if you live close or already have transportation !!

get small binders . ignore the dimensions teachers give you , you can always get another one if you need it . in my high school , we aren’t allowed to carry our bags so it’s better to have something small than 4 inch heavy binders .

keep ur pencils to urself !! everyone u hand them out to loses them . also keep track of your phone and have a purse if you can !! purses are so helpful .

look into a vocational technical school program if interested !! i’m enrolled in one and it’s the best decision i’ve ever made for my high school career . most high schools don’t let you enroll until sophomore or junior year .

look into clubs !! i run the dungeons & dragons club at my school and have met a ton of new people there . never be afraid to put yourself out there !

keep note of dress code or uniform if you have one , i did and had to follow it . just make sure you personalize it and make it you :3

that’s really all i have to say !!! if you have any questions , feel free to reply or even message me .

good luck going into your high school !! it’s way better than middle school :)

As a junior, I agree with the person above me. Also, as a side note, bus schedule route changes can occur any time during the school year. I know this based on my sophomore year school bus schedule.

From August 24th, 2021 (bus didn't show up at all on 8/23/2021, the first day of school) until February 23rd, 2022, I used to have to go outside and wait for the school bus at 7 am every morning. However, when I returned to school on March 1st, 2022 (after I had my wisdom teeth removed), I had to be out there around 6:45 because the driver now had to pick up some kid in another town. This lasted until the end of my sophomore year in June 2022. On the plus side, the longer bus route gave me more time to listen to some music on my MP3 player and sometimes even catch up on my sleep.

So yeah, if you take the school bus, be aware of the fact that the route and schedule can change at any moment without warning.
