I'm not doing the best atm and would like some recommendations to happy magical girl animes that I can just shut my brain off and watch for fun while I survive the summer. I've usually only watched the darker-themed magical animes so I know some can be deceiving at first appearances.

i'd recommend glitter force/smile precure!!! it was the first magical girl anime I watched as a kid and I still do to this day, the artstyle is so bouncy and cute and the characters are cuter! there is a clown theme for the buffoons (villains) but it isn't so heavy (just a clown nose and lips), still I recommend to everyone :D you can watch the entire thing on netflix in the English dub!

Hi! Very very late, sorry, but if you are still taking recommendations- basic, but sailor moon was honestly pretty chill. A lot of simple villain of the week stories I think most people would enjoy.
And Tokyo Mew Mew, which is actually making a bit of a comeback right now, is pretty solid.
not a magical girl show so don't tell anyone I said this but Little Witch Academia is probably up your alley too
