So about typing quirks...

Forum: SpaceHey

I am not sure which subforum that is fitting for this content but I know this topic is going to be controversial.

I have seen people using typing quirks (regardless if it's Homestuck reference or not, and also custom unicode "font" style counts perhaps) on this site but I had seen people complaining that it's ableist on Twitter because it makes screen readers say in wrong way, in which it confuses the user. To demonstrate, if you input "h3110 w0r1d!" into screen reader, it'll most likely say "h three thousand one hundred and ten double u zero r one dee."
When I try to look up "typing quirk" on UrbanDictionary, there is a saying that it benefits people with Dyslexia but maybe I haven't heard of people who are blind and still using screen reader software to this day. I want to know your thoughts on that.

I am sorry for writing this in inappropriate tone, I didn't mean it in that way.

GLOSSARY:

  • Typing quirk - A form of typing that incorporates styling with replacing symbols. For example, l33t sp34k (or leet speak)
  • Ableist - the discrimination of and social prejudice against people with disabilities
