As far as classic metal goes, Iron Maiden is where it's at. My personal fav songs are "Prowler", "Murders in the Rue Morgue", and "Phantom of the Opera". Slayer is also a great band, but it's more thrash metal, still classic tho :)

I am personally a complete rivethead, which means of course I am going to recommend my preference for industrial metal.
You cant go wrong with the populars: Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Rammstein. But my personal favorite industrial band is Godflesh. For a more "underground" choice, you have Author & Punisher, which is a one-man project that takes the word "industrial" very seriously: he made his own, unique instruments and MIDI controllers. For anyone reading, even if you don't like industrial music, A&P is still worth atleast a visual peek due to his originality :)

Necrokinesis, a one-man death/thrash band. He's on Spotify, give him a listen. Truly underrated.

Personally, Iron is my favourite metal. It's sturdy, it's reliable unlike some people/metals. It will be there for you. ALL THE TIME. Regardless of whether or not you have maybe by chance (a teeny weeny one) accidentally stabbed it. It doesn't reflect on your character and unlike some people/metals, Iron will FORGIVE you. Because it's not like you actually meant to stab it, you'd never dream of intentionally hurting it. Iron is the one. It cares about you and can look past a little mistake you made whilst you were maybe supposedly intoxicated. It's not a big deal!!!!!!! Like, who can really say that Gold will be there for them or Titanium or Magnesium, huh? Nobody. Iron has your back. Titanium seems like such a whiny metal too like 'durr you stabbed me, uh bleh it hurts.' Like get over it idiot, it's a stab wound not a gunshot wound. You'll survive. And Magnesium seems even worse 'uhh weeh durr baby don't stab me.' Iron is the way to go. Iron. No other metal will be there for you like Aron.

STOP RECOMMENDING ENTRY LEVEL SHIT IT'S TIME TO REALLY DIG DEEPER
Oh no dude Grausamkait is terrible I can clearly give you some better music that isn't one of a 1000s of projects made by a german heroin addict that records his dog barking in one of his tracks *cough* Corneus *cough*.
Anyway, if you're into black metal, I recommend these:
Lord Belial, Profanatica, Embrace of Thorns, Bestial Warlust, Craft, Blood chalice, Nocturnal Graves and the war metal classics (Blasphemy, Beherit, Nunslaughter, Impaled Nazarene etc.)
Btw I have wayyyy better death metal recommendations at hand:
- Insision - brutal death from sweden, sounds american tho
- Fleshcrawl - oldschool death metal that has the quality of literal Dismember or Entombed but is super slept on
- SEDIMENTUM - I love that fucking band so much. Canadian musical prodigies.
- Phobophilic - they did a split with SEDIMENTUM and it's the best shit you'll ever hear
- Mortuous, Gravesend, Caustic Wound, Concrete Winds, Undergang, Ossuary, Cryptworm, Baphomet, Convulse, Morgoth etc etc.
Now let's go for some black speed:
What else to say, you've got all the european gems here
Now if you're into sludge and doom or would like to check these genres out:
- Sludge Classics: Soilent Green, Eyehategod, Crowbar, Grief
- Lesser known: Slať
- Doom: disembowelment, bet you know Electric Wizard and Saint Vitus, Coltaine (been to their show and I was absolutely amazed), Mephistofeles, FUCKING CATHEDRAL, Belzebong, Thergothon, Skepticism
LMK if you liked these, I can drop waaaaaaay more ;)

if your looking for something a bit more easy going but still heavy id recommend bands like korn, system of a down, limp bizkit. if your looking for something a bit heavier id recommend something like slipknot (still in the nu metal genre) if you wanna do deeper though you can dive into death metal like cannibal corpse or death! :) ofc the genre goes on and it just goes deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole, but i dont wanna go on a rant so ill just end it here, lol.

depends of what type of metal you lean more into.
if its heavy metal,id say leatherwolf is a great introduction besides the classics, like ac/dc,motorhead,black sabbath, etc.
if its symphonic metal, you could listen to delain, lacuna coil(kind of a mix between gothic metal and symphonic),leaves' eyes, nightwish, visions of atlantis, and sometimes ghost too.
if its power metal, you could listen to powerwolf, dream evil, dream theatre, running wild, falconer, stratovarius, manowarall for metal.
if its industrial metal, you could listen to rammstein, emigrate, schwarzer engel, marilyn manson, megaherz.
if its numetal,you could listen to p.o.d,limp bizkit,slipknot,korn,coal chamber,mudvayne,powerman5000,linkin park,trapt,gemini syndrome,system of a down,dry kill logic.
if its leaning towards aggressiveness, such as black, death, etc. you could listen to dimmu borgir, agathodaimon, hecate enthroned, rotting christ, elm street, emperor, skullfist.
if its glam metal, you could listen to motley crue, def leppard, van halen, steel panther, joan jett, europe, warrant, kiss.(some of these might be more rock than metal.)
hope this helps a little bit!:}
