Forum: Music

I have been on a huge metal kick lately and I'm always looking for music recommendations! Send me your favs!

(EDIT AFTER 2 YEARS WOWEE):

I really was not expecting this to get as much traction as it did. I sort of forgot I had a spacehey for the past two years. I finally read through all of the forum replies! Thank you all so much for the recommendations! I'll keep this open for anyone else looking to post about their band or just their favorites

Here's my favorites so far, for fun:

Cannibal Corpse, Dethklok, Goblin Cock, Mayhem, Judas Priest, Type O Negative, Grausamkeit, Scythelord

Sacral Rage- Beyond Celestial Echoes is a great  recent tech/thrash record.

I've been revisiting the early Mastodon stuff, I'm a big prog fan so I gravitate to Crack The Skye onwards but I forgot how great the first couple of records are.

These are the first bands that came to my mind when I thought about artists that definitely need more recognition. I would have added more, but I didn't want this to turn into a wall of text :D

Mgla
is a black metal band with some extremely nice melodies that, however, do not hinder the sometimes claustrophobic experience they are able to provide you.

Bulldozer is one of the "italian thrash metal triad" bands (the other ones being Necrodeath and Schizo) and they are one of the thrash metal I enjoy the most. Sometimes motoread-ish, sometimes with a punk attitude, alway fast.

Ceremonial Oath is a melodic death metal band that featured some young guys that would end up later on creating In Flames and Hammerfall. This is a band that I hardly see mentioned, but if you like early In Flames stuff like I do (especially Lunar Strain and Subterranean) you will find some extremely nice tunes.

Sigh is just a crazy band. Mainly a black metal, they experimented A LOT during their career. Fast songs, songs with classical music feel, songs with saxophones? You name it. This is one of their most "normal" tunes but one of their best ones imho.

Artillery is such a good band. Some albums hit like a punch in the face, while other ones have a strong emphasis on melody and arabic scales.

For black metal, some of the less well known ones I like are Celestial Bloodshed, Frosten, Soulless (DSBM,) Elderwind (atmospheric,) and Nocturnal Depression (DSBM.) For um, other metal I guess? I stumbled across Unreqvited recently and their album "Stars Wept To The Sea" is a masterpiece. Also, seconding the mgla rec above.

Also also, dunno how to class them, drone maybe? But definitely check out The Angelic Process. Their atmosphere is fucking unmatched and it is so heavy.
