I just got the roland boutique JD-08 synth! It's based on the old JD-800 synthesizer by the same company. This piece of gear makes lush pads and some of those classic 90's synth sounds. Right now I am working on a soundtrack for a vaporwave styled VR game based on dreams so I picked this up since it had the perfect presets but also a great way to make new nostalgic sounds.
The originaly JD-800 was one of the first big jumps into hybrid synthesis and was very electronic sounding since it relied on a plethora of non traditional waveforms! It also allowed for some complex patches by utilizing the complex envelopes! Even though this technology is over 20 years old it is still extremely powerful and more than useful in a modern studio setting.
I give this little synth a solid 7.5 out of 10
It is a part of the boutique series which means it doesnt come with a keybed and the sliders are extremely tiny but the big sounds makes up for it and brings a lot of sonic possiblities to your synth palette!
