God I have been yearning for the dirtywave M8 tracker or even the polyend tracker. I used to use trackers back in the early 2000's when I couldn't afford FL studio. They are so much more powerful than a lot of other workflows mainly because of the muscle memory that you get when you are working with them.
i originally got hooked on them after I heard the soundtrqack for a game called "the deep cave" on the xbla. It was a super crazy difficult platforming game that had the most bumpin soundtrack ever. You can listen to the music hear :FearOfDark! Chiptune was still super popular at the time and trackers were the king of chiptune. I still remember sinking a ton of time on the 8BC website (it's a shame that it's not around anymore!).
Milky tracker was my first introduction to trackers and if you arent familiar with trackers its like looking at just a mass of random numbers and letters. but once you start to figure out the automation and how to key in notes it gets so much easier and the limits are just your imagination
The polyend tracker and the dirtywave M8 are very posh trackers. The M8 has a chiptune synth engine which allows for people to easily get that vibes but it also has a couple of the mutable instruments freeware synths that sound awesome but also on top of that you get the option to use samples!
The polyend doesnt have as many synthesis options but it does allow you to create your own wavetables, chop samples, jump into ganular, and also has a built in FM radio for grabbing new samples and choppin on the fly.
As of right now I have the polyend tracker preordered at my local music shop and I cant wait to get it. The main reason for getting either is becauseof how lightweight and portable they both are without sacrificing power. I still wanted to be able to create full fledged tracks so these were the no brainer choices and they came at the perfet time.
I will say that I would have preferred the dirtywave M8 but they are so hard to get at the moment so I am biding my time until I can finally snag one directly from the main website rather than pay scalpers.
