there used to be a website for fanart that functioned more-or-less like deviantart but with a layout similar to old newgrounds or youtube. i think it had "fan" or "art" in the url but i dont remember very well. did anyone else use this? it had a lot of sonic, death note, and resident evil fans on it.

As the person above said, this sounds a lot like Sheezy Art circa 2004 - 2007 to me. The original site is long-dead, but some former Sheezy users brought it back recently under new management. My wife has been using it to post her art this last week or so, and it seems like a pretty good platform if you're into that sort of thing. Definitely worth checking out.
