Half Life 2 mod a alternative frankinstein story. Goreagulation.

I haven't watched the whole thing, but the beginning got me excited. Imagine that you are a creature, your purpose in life is to kill the people thrown here, but unlike all creatures, you have an intelligence. Right after you are born, you encounter a bait and realize that you can talk with the bait, you empathize with your own food and start to disrupt the purpose of creation. This story seems familiar to me from somewhere, hmm... Human?

It does certainly look frankensteinian in a way, but I don't know how I feel about it. I think the overwhelmingly permiating question in my head is "why?" granted I didn't watch the whole thing eiter but the setting is very fleshy for what feels like very little reason. The exposition dump at the start is a lot of utilitarian info with not a lot of context, the new assets don't really fit the old ones and half the time don't feel like they need to be there - I get enemies and player, I get the melee weapon but guns? Huh?

Not to knock the project down, because it clearly tries to explore an idea, its not like it's random bullshit being thrown together and if nothing else it feels like a valid stepping stone towards improvement. The sheer amount of new assets certainly feels like getting good practice in if nothing else, but I don't feel compelled to play it myself.

Either way that kind of thing requires either custom shaders or the kind of modeling/texturing work that professional CS skin and TF2 item designers put in for real money. Or more, depending on your point of comparison.
