giant squids and sperm whale scarring

it is an extremely common occurrence for sperm whales to be spotted with scarring on their heads and bodies. usually this in the form of lacerations, but can occasionally be due to sucker marks. below is an example of this!









because these are mostly around the head of the whale, it's safe to assume that these scars are almost all from a type of prey.. the giant or colossal squid! both of which have hooks on each sucker on their tentacles to grip onto prey or predators. unfortunately, there's no existing footage of sperm whales hunting squid, therefore it makes determining the true cause of these scars (colossal or giant) very difficult.
