I'd suggest going for Halloween (original), Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Thing, Night Of the Dead, Day Of The Dead, etc. See what you're more into. iE: slashers, paranormal, creatures, psychological, etc. Then gonfrom there. But don't limit yourself based on reviews of the movies because to each their own.
