sorry for my typos, i just got a new keyboard and am still getting used to it!

tinker bell and the disney fairies franchise originated from a trilogy of books written by gail carson lavene which then evolved into a whole slew of chapter books all written by various authors and following their own isolated stories surrounding the various faries from pixie hollow, located on neverland island in the universe of peter pan. the original trilogy served as a good starting point for people to learn the worldbuilding of pixie hollow before diving into the chapter books which could be read and enjoyed in no particular order with no greater or overarching story (which makes sense as they were written with children in mind, who notoriously do not have the attention span to read the likes of, for example, game of thrones, generally speaking). in the books, tinker bell was an established character living in pixie hollow with all the other fairies, getting into all kinds of trouble and fun with her friends.

then, in 2008, the series was quietly and softly rebooted with a 3d animated movie titled tinker bell. this movie started with tinker bell's arrival to pixie hollow after having just been born from the first laugh of a baby. this introduction part, much like the rest of the movie and subsequent sequel movies, animated shorts, and games, shares little with the books in any capacity. and that bothers me.

i dont understand why the reboot of tinker bell / disney fairies as a franchise had to be so different from the original books and such. like, they literally didn't have to change so much. tinker bell in the books had a small friend group consisting of a few fairies like prilla, rani, lily, and so on. most of them got COMPLETELY changed in the new movies and shorts! excapt for a few?? like vidia and queen clarion and terrance. THEY all get to stay while beck gets replaced by fawn, who is LITERALLY the same character with a different name and haircut. don't get me wrong, i like the new characters, but it all just feels so unecessary. i can understand changing their designs to make them easier to animate, but why bother keeping characters like vidia if you're going to change almost everyone else?? it's not like any character other than tinker bell was particularly popular.

not only that, but they also changed the talents. and it makes NO SENSE!! in the books, there were as many talents as there were stars in the sky, which is to say many. some of them were broad, like being a 'water talent' fairy or being a 'tinker talent' fairy, but some of them were incredibly niche, like being a fairy who has a 'pots and pans mending' talent, or a 'lady bug wrangling' talent, which i think is cool! it adds a lot of individuality to the characters and allows kids and adults alike who enjoy the series to make their own fairy characters with whatever talent they want! there's so much room for creativity and uniqueness, it's kind of like when you're in the pool with your friends playing mermaids and you all pick what special powers you each have.

but in the movies, no, you get like. 7. water, light, tinker, garden, animal, fast-flying, dust, and?? winter??? and sure, there's some variation on what you can do in each talent, but it seems like they just broadened it up to where if you're a garden fairy, great! you can now do anything relating to plants and flowers. which is cool, but idk, it just loses it's uniqueness in having everyone kind of being able to do the same stuff. but then, in tinker bell and the secret of the wings, we learn that warm weather fairies can't interact with winter fairies as they're restricted to their own parts of pixie hollow (the cold part i guess). in contrast to the books, in which fairies really only cared about making people believe in fairies because belief is what keeps them alive, fairies in the reboot are in charge of changing seasons on the 'mainland,' or the human world. namely london england, as it's never implied the fairies travel anywhere else to change seasons. i've always wondered if this means there are other fairies that are tasked with changing the seasons in other parts of the world? but i digress. the point is, in the first tinker bell movie, tinker bell and two other tinker fairies, bobble and clank, are seen flying through the winter area with little to no issue outside of being a bit cold. but in secret of the wings it's implied that your wings will disintigrate and never recover or grow back if they are left exposed to the elements for even a short while. so... what is the truth??

there's some other stuff outside of the movies that bothers me about talents. mainly in the video games. in two of the three nintendo ds video games there are for the tinker bell reboot, you get to create your own character! your own fairy! this is what every kid was probably thinking about doing when reading the books or even watching the movies. but you don't get to choose from all the talents - you just get water, garden, animal, tinker, and light. don't get me wrong, this is still an impressive lineup and does impact several things about the game such as which minigames you get to play with that particular fairy, but why not go the whole 9 and put the other 3 in? "no one would want to be a fast flying fairy" are you kidding me? vidia was SUCH a cool character and i'm sure a lot of kids goth / lesbian awakening, i mean just look at her!! especially in the great fairy rescue where she has some character growth!! "well they can't go to the winter part" ok but they literally can? in the first tinker bell game they do, AND in the second one (if i'm not mistaken), because at that point secret of the wings hadn't come out yet and they didn't know they'd have to worry about it.

thankfully and also unfortunately, no more games were produced for the ds after the great fairy rescue game, so we never got our secret of the wings game to try and retcon in the reason as to why you're no longer able to freely and safely explore the winter areas. i almost wish they had gone the route of "every kids movie has to have an accompanying video game" just for the sake of having more content. they DID have pixie hollow online, but it's since been shut down. however, a recreation is being developed by fans under the name "we the pixies," which looks exceptionally promising! i never played the original, but im excited to engage in this new version just for fun!!

Himiko was a very cheerful girl, to the point of smiling even after having presumably killed someone, displaying sadistic tendencies. This continued even when danger was imminent, as seen when Tomura Shigaraki was about to attack her, but it usually stopped when she was bored or annoyed. Himiko was frequently seen blushing seemingly out of excitement rather than embarrassment, giving her a permanent look of what appeared to be lovesickness on her face. However, she did show that she could easily be embarrassed, such as when she thought people were coming on to her, or when she was naked when copying clothes of the people she transformed into. Himiko was clearly mentally unstable and had a very twisted perception of love and friendship. This was evidenced when, despite her attempting to kill Ochaco Uraraka and Tsuyu Asui, she tried to befriend the two girls as they fought, affectionately calling Tsuyu by her first name and describing the former as "lovely". When talking to Ochaco, she said that it's only natural to want to be like the one you love, and for Himiko this was taken to the point of literally becoming that person. She further explained and compared that like how "normal" people kiss the people they love as "normal", she sucked the blood of the people she loved, as this was her "normal", further showing her twisted understanding of love. She used this to justify her carving up and butchering "guys who are tattered and reeking of blood", as they fit the description of her ideal lover. Additionally, although it may seem so, Himiko's interest wasn't just superficial, as her questioning Izuku Midoriya about what his values and beliefs imply, showing that although twisted, she did indeed want to learn more about the person she loved. During her later confrontation with Izuku in the Final War, it's shown that despite the twisted way in which she acts when infatuated, her affection for Izuku was absolutely genuine and without any inherent malevolence, as Izuku's Danger Sense did not detect Himiko even when she ran at him with a knife.[13] The love Himiko felt seemed to be no different from what "normal" people feel, but she simply did not know how to express it in a normal manner due to her warped mental state, which is the reasoning behind her constantly seeking battle with and the blood of those she loved in order to become closer to them. Himiko was quite courageous, or at least very confident when using her Quirk, even impersonating an aspiring Hero and taking part in an exam that gathered thousands of hero students and multiple Pro Heroes. She also showed a comedic and childlike demeanor when faced with different situations, such as when she was with Twice or when she attempted to insult Mimic. Like most of her allies, Himiko found living life to be difficult in the current world and wanted to make it an easier place to live in. She looks up to Stain and saw him as her role model; declaring a desire to kill and "become" him (possibly a reference to her Quirk). In stark contrast to her maniacal nature, Himiko showed a very supportive side as she comforted a distraught Twice, knowing he felt the most responsible for causing Magne's death and covering a part of his ripped mask to prevent him from splitting. By extension, she was shown to care greatly about her comrades and was enraged enough by Magne's death that she wanted to kill Overhaul and his men as payback. Even during the Final War, despite being driven by her rage towards the Heroes, she still became distraught over why her Quirk couldn't allow her to truly become Twice and use his Quirk to its full extent, further showing her closeness towards her fallen ally. Himiko was also prone to mood swings. When she found a target of "affection" (mainly Izuku) she was loud and cheerful. However, when someone got in between her and her target of her "affection", she showed a very cold, angered, and annoyed expression, instantly switching priorities to kill whoever the nuisance is. In the past, Himiko was noted by her family and former classmates to be, "a cheerful, reasonable, well-mannered girl" whose subsequent turn to a life of crime surprised everyone who knew her. However, her own recollections imply that this was merely an act she put on to try and fit in with what society deemed "normal." She believed the way she acted was her own normal and that she shouldn't be forced to conceal it. Re-Destro theorizes that Himiko's twisted personality came off as a result of her Quirk being blood-related, thus prompting a natural inclination towards it, and by proxy her "non normal" behavior, which was later emphasized due to societal norms, as well as her parents who tried desperately to repress and reform the tendencies brought on by her Quirk. During childhood, Himiko was put through much pressure to be "normal", where she struggled seeing everyone around her being allowed to be themselves and show affection. As it turns out, being forced to repress her feelings only made them grow internally. Her parents admonished her for her behavior, calling her rotten to the core and labelling her as inhuman, something that drove a distraught Himiko to her breaking point. She eventually succumbed to her Quirk's influence and ended up attacking another student, Saito, who was bloodied and bruised from a fight, believing that what she felt towards him was a crush. Despite her psychotic personality and violent habits, Himiko did possess some standards, as she was greatly shocked and upset when Twice was killed during the Paranormal Liberation War. Following her murderous rampage to avenge her comrade and dear friend, she questioned if the heroes didn't view Twice as a person if they are meant to save people. Furthermore, Himiko did show a strong desire for true friendship and others she could relate to outside of her murderous behavior, viewing the League of Villains as a place she could call home due to her allies also being outcasted by society. She was also greatly hurt when Ochaco refused to identify with her, due to both of them being forced to shut away their true feelings, with Ochaco hiding her feelings for Izuku, and Himiko having been forced to hide her true nature brought on by her Quirk. This all hinted at a sense of loneliness within Himiko due to her inability to fit into society. During her fight with Curious, she also recalled that when she took on the guise of a high school girl while she was on the run, the world became a bit kinder to her. Himiko was also curious and even somewhat fearful as to what would have happened to her if she was caught, and went to Ochaco to inquire about this. Although the latter's answer of apprehending the young villainess didn't answer this much, Himiko wondered if the heroes planned to kill her like they did with Twice. Despite boasting of never coming close to being caught, she did show to fear being captured or killed, as seen when she begged Eel Boy to let her go while the Pro Hero was apprehending her, as well as when she screamed in terror upon nearly being killed by Curious. Himiko later acknowledged that her most likely circumstances are ending up in prison on death row, or being killed outright by the Heroes in battle, which is why she refused to back down. During her time with the League, Himiko adopted Tomura's philosophy: that she should destroy whatever she despises. This was first demonstrated when she killed Curious and her squad, choosing to do this rather than leave them for Gigantomachia. During the Final War while facing off against Deku and Uravity, Himiko demonstrated how much she related to Tomura's ideals, saying that society has done nothing but reject her for how she is, and that she has a right to reject them. While at first, Himiko expressed some regret that she couldn't talk to Ochaco about love, she soon discarded any sentiment she had towards Izuku, Tsuyu, and Ochaco, believing that they were just like her parents who rejected her, while lamenting that their society's rules pity her but don't care. As the battle raged on and Himiko's past memories began to resurface, she became more determined on killing the Heroes in her way, becoming even more unstable as a result. Himiko's loathing towards hero society was further emphasised, with her believing that they only value those who are important to them, while people like her and Twice are swept away and left to struggle and suffer by themselves. By the height of the Final War, Himiko fully embraced her villainy as she took on Twice's appearance and used his Quirk, telling her clones to massacre every hero in sight. However, through much effort, Ochaco finally managed to get through to Himiko, getting her to open up about her past and her true feelings, how she would get so jealous over not being allowed to express her love towards other people. During this, Himiko's emotions reach their climax and she found herself unable to finish Ochaco off, instead becoming elated when Ochaco admitted to finding her smile cute and calling her "the cutest in the whole world", causing the villain to finally stand down. Following this heartfelt exchange, Himiko became willing to sacrifice herself to save a dying Ochaco by giving her all of her blood, still unwilling to let herself be captured, but not wanting to let someone so close to her die, being grateful that Ochaco took the time to reach out and understand her, despite everything she did. Overall, Himiko was a twisted yet conflicted villain whose life led her to commit many horrible actions. However, she never truly wished to be evil and only wanted a world that would accept her. Himiko acknowledged that her feelings of warped love and jealousy led her to hurt others, but had she known the feeling that Ochaco gave her sooner, then she might have felt compelled to share her blood with others, and could have lived an easier and happier life. In her final moments, Himiko held Ochaco close to her with tears in her eyes, content at receiving the acceptance she never had. Himiko's memory would remain with Ochaco for years to come, even after she graduated from U.A. High School and became a Pro Hero, having inspired her to begin an expansion to Quirk counselling as to provide better guidance to children so no one like Himiko would be left to suffer by themselves again. Eight years later, it is revealed that a vestige of Himiko lingers within Ochaco and approaches her in her dreams. Himiko's vestige encourages Ochaco to finally embrace her feelings for Izuku, prompting the two U.A. alumni to reconnect.

this is probably gonna be a bit rambly and nonsensical but it's just because i have a hard time putting to words the things im thinking sometimes. especially if i get all wound up about it.

i find that a LOT of people seem to mischaracterize shadow the hedgehog. i think even sega is guilty of it sometimes. their main issue is that they tend to label shadow as an edgelord who hates everybody and never smiles and hates everything but that's!! not true!!! he's my sweet good boy he came from an egg i dug up from my backyard!! :(

shadow's first appearance is so impossibly important to me yall dont even know. david humphrey was and will always be my favorite shadow voice actor. jason griffith was great too but i think kirk thornton just isnt the right voice. he tends to be way too gruff and bitter and mean, and when you compare it directly to humphrey's take it's way more obvious. shadow's voice in sa2 was sort of mellow and monotone and sort of mysterious and cool and rrrgrgrghrghghhh he was so so cute. there's also a couple of lines where humphrey gave him kind of a weird little accent? like a little cockney accent?? god i hate him i wanna crush him with a hammer he's so important to me.

shadow was also distinctly not all that edgy in sonic adventure 2. he was mourning and definitely dramatic and flouncier than sonic was, but he was just! a sweet little guy! the marketing for that game fuckin kills me too. they call him an "evil, sinister, malcontent hedgehog" and then you play the game and you meet the sweetest little cutie patootie of all time and he's got chest fluff and he's got an earth shatteringly gay little dynamic with the main goodboy sonic and his voice is smooth and sort of flat and sad sounding. and my boy is haunted! by his past! THAT'S JUST THE WAY I LIKE EM!!

shadow was originally supposed to die forever at the end of sonic adventure 2. can you imagine a world where sega permanently killed shadow the hedgehog? not a world id wanna live in. they realized they had to bring him back after the game came out and everybody LOVED shadow and desperately wanted him to be in another game. also in the final hazard fight at the end of the game he has SUCH gay little voicelines. one of which is "Sonic, I think I've discovered what the ultimate lifeform is. It might be you!" GGGGOODDDDDD I HATE THEM I HATE THEM I HATE THEM THEYRE SO SO SPECIAL TO ME AAAAUUGHKJLNM

david humphrey is also a singer. he does stage performances. you can find them. theyre great. that's shadow singing that. grhhegwrherhehrhrrrgrhgrhrrrrrrrgrhrrghrrr

I started playing this mermaid game on Roblox and the game is super new and there isn't much lore right now, but there's one thing I can't get out of my head: the trident. There's a trident in the corner of the map, and it's like giant and stuck on the ground. Loading screen says it's the reminiscent of a war that happened long ago, but like, WHAT WAR?! There aren't a lot of mermaids aside from the players, pretty sure there are only 3 NPCs around and only one of them is interactive, which leads me to believe there are very fewer mermaids than it used to be. Perhaps most died in said war? But it's weird because the map has basically nothing destroyed or, y'know, "scars" that could indicate that something happened. Also, the place is called the mermaid isle and the water is super shimmery and there's no indicative of humans too, so I imagine it's an isolated place only for mermaids (possibly hidden through magic), but that gets debunked by the sunken ship that is on the out-of-bounds area. But maybe that ship was sunken a long time ago? The biggest question for me is whether the war was fought against humans or other mermaids/sea creatures.

I think the mermaid isle is an isolated place like the Neverland or the fairy land in Tinkerbell, it's likely hidden through magic and possibly only accessible to mermaids or through something more specific. And like, the trident was clearly thrown by some giant mermaid or someone with enough strength/magic, probably a queen or king fighting with their army. The whole map is quite small, and the open sea is simply sealed off for the moment (The devs already said they're going to do some map expansions tho) and I like to imagine we can't swim there because it's where the protection magic ends, so everyone is stuck inside the mermaid shield for good until something changes.

This is a relatively newer interest (my former one was Percy Jackson), but currently it’s the band Pentatonix.

Pentatonix is an a cappella group consisting of 5 members: Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee. Avriel “Avi” Kaplan is a former member who left due to personal reasons (none of which involved any bad blood amongst the group, but rather familial circumstances and mental health struggles)

The band members Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch grew up together in Texas. They were all in music theatre. They originally formed a a cappella group called “The Trio” and their cover of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” went somewhat viral.

Eventually Scott and Kirstie (who were both a school year ahead of Mitch) both graduated and went to college. Scott went to USC and I’m not sure where Kirstie went.

Scott met Ben Bram, who was an arranger and vocal coach for the TV show The Sing Off and Ben convinced Scott to audition with the trio for the Sing Off. Mitch actually missed his graduation services to go to the audition.

They needed 5 members to compete, so Ben found Avi and Kevin, who notably “cello-boxes”, beatboxing and playing the cello simultaneously.

The name Pentatonix was decided upon, inspired by the pentatonic scale along with “penta” meaning 5 and their group having 5 members. They passed the audition despite only being together for about 24 hours.

Fast forward a bit, and they’ve (spoiler, skip to next paragraph if you plan to watch the Sing Off) won the Sing Off. all performances are available on YouTube, but be aware that some are a bit tacky or cliche due to the time period. My personal favorite is Video Killed the Radio Star (original by the Buggles) but their performance of Dog Days are Over (original by Florence and the Machine) is amazing as well. They won a record contract but were dropped due to the record label not thinking a cappella wasn’t marketable enough.

They started posting on YouTube, and went viral. Their cover of Daft Punk specifically went very viral, and won their first of three Grammys. They began producing their own music along with covers, began putting out Christmas albums almost annually (their most famous songs are their Christmas covers, especially Mary Did You Know).

Avi leaves, and Matt Sallee joins in 2017.

Now about the individual members! Scott Hoying is baritone and does a lot of the vocals. He is married to Mark, his husband. Mitch Grassi is, I believe, a counter-tenor and does a lot of vocals as well. He is openly gay and but is not (to my knowledge) openly dating anyone or married. Kirstie Maldonado is a mezzo-soprano and does mostly background vocals but has solos as well. She is married to Ben Houssdorf. Matt Sallee is the bass. Matt is married to Sarah Bishop. Avi Kaplan was the bass as well (although he was a professionally trained basso-profundo, and Matt is not). Kevin Olusola is the beatboxer, so naturally he doesn’t sing a whole lot but has sang every once in a while. He is married to Lee Weisman.

Many of the members have solo careers, although I personally only follow Mitch’s solo work under the name of Messer.

My favorite covers by them in no particular order:

Gold originally by Kiiara

I Saw Three Ships originally by… I don’t know.

Video Killed the Radio Star originally by The Buggles.

Aha! originally by Imogen Heap (the Singapore, Star Vista version of this one is great)

Bohemian Rhapsody originally by Queen

Imagine by John Lennon

My favorite song written by them: Never Gonna Cry Again

So yeah! Pentatonix is currently sitting at 20.5 million subscribers on YouTube, 3 Grammys, and having sold 10+ million albums. They’ve also gained a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
