things that look like humans, make human noises but something deep inside tells me they really aren’t human.

im native and go out hiking, hunting, camping, etc. alot both alone and with my family and i love in virginia not exactly in any mountain region but theres lots of forest and farm land here but a lot of the time i go out alone after dark especially in the forest ive had so many experiences with something, they whistle pretty much nonstop you can always hear it and i assumed it was some weird kinda bird the first few times i heard it but i see shapes a lot and since its dark and i dont normally bring a light source with me besides the moon i cant see details but it’s vaguely human shapes and the volume of the whistling doesnt change the closer or farther away i think they are like when one of thems in my line of sight or pretty close it all sounds the same and i think there are many of them because ive seen them in many different parts of the forest in areas close to the treeline or even much deeper in and theres always something different about them like bigger shapes and such and even though it looks to be a human from what i can see its pretty significantly larger than one and normally they look to be hunched over like a person whos about 7 feet tall leaning over to pick up something is the best way i can describe it and i know ive seen some with longer or shorter arms some slightly varying in height but i do know they’re all tall that doesnt change even really leaned over u can just tell they’re tall but since i can never 100% make out a face or glare of the eyes even i dont know what i could even assume they are and as far as i know they’ve never made an attempt to hurt or hunt me and im not exactly menacing im pretty short and such but it seems like they dont like being close to me they’ve never been closer then id say about 50 feet and whenever i move or start getting closer they dont really spook off but they do begin moving away and just because they keep distance doesnt mean its any less scare when i see them and ive spent more than my fair share of nights high up in a tree watching for any movement while camping but i was wondering if anyone else had seen whatever these guys are? and why there seems to be so many of them?

I was actually kind of interested to look this one up since I live in Western Maryland. Hello state neighbor ^_^. So, when I googled "humanoid cryptids that whistle" I didn't really come up with much. I did find two stories however that fit the description you gave; one was in Pennsylvania and the other in Georgia. Both were along the Appalachian Mountain chain, leading me to believe that this is a cryptid native to our region.

Most other sites or comments I've found want to call these Wendigos, but that doesn't really seem to fit as Wendigos are usually described to be aggressive. Perhaps this is an offshoot of Bigfoot? I'm not really sure, but if I'm out one evening for a nocturnal stroll and I encounter one of these creatures, I'll be sure to let you know.

Wow, that's really creepy! I've heard of stories and legends about mysterious figures in the woods, but your experience sounds so detailed and consistent. Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably be super unnerved, especially if I was alone out there. Have you considered chatting with locals or even looking into local folklore or legends? There might be some stories or explanations that could shed light on what you're encountering. Either way, please stay safe and maybe consider bringing a buddy when you venture out next time. That way, you have an extra set of eyes and ears with you.
