Honestly, the healing process isn't as bad as I expected it to be. I've had my right snakebite since 10/6/2022 (my left one fell out a few days later while I was asleep on 10/9/2022, so I'll have to get it repierced) and besides the swollen lip you'll have for a week and the slight pain you'll have for only a few hours afterwards, healing a lip piercing is a breeze. This has been my easiest healing piercing compared to all of my others (especially compared to my 5th holes on my ears and nostril since cartilage takes longer to heal). Just make sure the balls or spikes are tight every night so that they don't fall out.
As for tooth and gum damage, as long as you aren't playing with the bars with your teeth and use shorter posts once the swelling is gone, you'll be fine. In addition, you can also use bioflex bars to further reduce the risk of tooth and gum damage. Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly also helps to prevent tooth and gum damage (as well as infections).
And contrary to popular belief, they won't cause any damage to braces (if you have them). I know this based on my personal experience having my lip pierced with braces at the same time.
