how to still enjoy insta and tic tac

if you're like me, you agree social media is trash these days. but at the same time you still like it. here are some things ive done that have helped me enjoy it more:

1. unfollow influencers.
(i won't lie, i still follow a couple. but its because of their humor, personality, not because i want to look like them or live like them. unfollow those influencers that revolve their career around their looks or luxury.)
2. do activities where you're not watching someone else do something. read, play video games, cook, etc.
3. pick up your old talents. try new talents or hobbies
4. hang our with friends irl!
5. spend more time studying your academic material
i cannot tell you how much ive improved by studying when im bored
6. sleep well. eat well.
7. go on daily walk
8. turn to sites like these!

hope this helped <3

I mean, im italian, in Italy we have a weird economy behind insta pages, admin create pages and get followers by stealing memes and content and putting their logo on the post, then they sell the page and repeat. I dont know if this happens in others part of the world but is annoying and cringe as fuck

yeah, ive seen this happen sometimes here in the US. someone will grow a page and then sell it once it reaches like 20k followers... weird

I've never really liked influencers that much because they (usually) not my kind of content but when I do follow them, it's because I already like the stuff that they make that isn't just "Follow me for more Make-Up tips" kinda stuff.

i went from my only social media being stack exchange sites, to having an account and looking at just about all of the apps around, to back to just facebook, youtube, 4chan, and spacehey, all in 3 years

reddit especialy was toxic. i hated that userbase.

could never get into tiktok, just having to sit beside someone watching tiktok and simply hearing that drivel made me want to have an anurism.

ive been looking at 4chan a lot less, sick of all the shills and bots and raiders, the negativity/pessimism, plus the deluge of porn

modern social media is a timesuck, but it also effects your attention span and your mood, it was worse for me than literally anything else ive ever experianced.

id delete facebook in a heartbeat, but unfortuantly a lot of people have ditched websites in favour of exclusivly facebook pages or groups, especialy for a lot of local stuff that i like being a part of. also having marketplace is super handy because kijiji is dead and craigslist never took off here.

at this point, i dont even watch yt per se; i just save videos to a playlist then listen to the videos on newpipe while im doing chores or whatnot.

dont get me wrong, like social media as a concept isnt bad, it could be a tool for amazing things.

but the way that we have been made the product, and how our psycology is being hacked to milk every cent makes me disgusted...

@Insignia yeah 4chan hasnt been good since 2016 (and to some, 2012). I was in the eruption of 4chan users back in 2016 and i loved the memes that came out of it. I remember when that site bascially created every meme. and i know i know, there are the SFW channels, but i miss when /b/ and /r9k/ has some funny memes and cool stuff. Not just another weird porn thread or "haha *insert minority* bad xd guys im so edgy and quirky hardy har harrrrr". 4chan just fucking sucks now.
There only good alternative ive found is Lainchan which is pretty cool.

I deleted TikTok recently since it's basically just designed to waste your time, and I was tired of getting addicted to the mindless scrolling. Sure, making tiktoks is fun and all but I feel like I spent too much time on it so i decided to delete it (also the fact that everyone switches up super fast on there and no one seems to have an original opinion ever- mob mentality, i think.)

I do use Instagram and use it regularly, but I don't spend an unhealthy amount of time on there like I did with Tiktok. I find it really sweet that you're promoting healthy behaviors and trying to get people to have a healthier relationship with the internet, as well as balancing it with real-life interactions as well. I personally struggle with socializing and for the past few years i've basically depended on the internet to ease my loneliness- I'm trying to work on that, but it's still a struggle, especially since I don't really like a lot of the people in my area IRL.
