Oil painting tips please?

I'm going to be doing an oil painting soon as a gift for someone! I haven't touched oil paint in years though.. ahhh. I plan on painting plein air since I don't have a studio or a ventilated enough room, and I've already primed my canvas. Does anyone have any general tips for someone whose skills in the medium would be rusty? :)
