watercolour tips?

Hey all, I hope this is alright to post here. :)

I recently started using watercolours (literally yesterday-), and was wondering if anyone had any tips for me? I think I'm doing alright so far (I'm unable to post pictures at the moment :(), but I was wondering how I could for example lighten a certain area, or if there's any tips to getting details right in general?

Thanks so much in advance!

This is a bit late, sorry! But watercolours are my go-to paint so I'd still like to help if I can! My advice is to paint light to dark with them, start off by laying down the lightest colours and then build up your shading on top. For lightening a colour you just want to be mixing it with a lot of water and it should lighten effectively, I recommend having scrap paper with you to test your colours on before they go on the painting! Adding pure water to the painting can also lift a bit of colour if you've gone too dark and want to make something lighter again. In general with decent quality watercolours, a little will go a long way so long as you have plenty of water. :) I hope you're enjoying the medium! I find them really fun ^^
