This is gonna sound so goddamn stupid but hear me out. Sleep paralysis is when you're half awake half asleep, and you're completely paralyzed. People can sometimes see creepy things known as "sleep paralysis demons". They could be hallucinations due to lack of sleep, they could be your mind just playing tricks on you from poor lighting. However, I have a theory. What if some people can cross over dimensions, worlds, timelines, or even alternate universes when they sleep? Or rather, when they sleep, a small bit of a different reality shifts into ours. This explains some paranormal experiences such as the "Dear David" from August of 2017. If you want to find more, here's the Twitter thread link. To sum it up, the "Dear David" story is a story about a man who found out his apartment was haunted by a little boy. (Whom which if I remember correctly, is about 7) This theory suggests that the "sleep paralysis demons" are not hallucinations nor are they the classic jacket over a chair we see in movies as kids. Just imagine that your childhood monster under your bed was real. Except these "monsters" are not under your bed, they're not figments of your imagination, but real-life demons. Real-life ghouls. Just think of how terrifying that would be, then think about how that's possible. Spooky. I'm sure there are other experiences like "Dear David" however I don't know of any. I've got no evidence to support this theory, it's just something I kinda thought of and wanted to share

I have another theory regarding sleep paralysis. What if when you die a 'peaceful' death by passing away in your sleep, the sleep paralysis demon finally gets to you. I might sound crazy but i've been in a lot of forums about it and i never actually talked to someone who had the 'demon' actually touch them.Â

Forgive me if something gets lost in translation, but Slavic folklore seems to have an interesting take on sleep paralysis. When talking about sleep paralysis with my parents, I found that traditionally (at least in Slovakia), sleep paralysis is thought of as some kind of malicious spirit/demon "resting" on you, whether spiritually or physically, it's supposed to be some kind of being placing its weight on you or inhibiting you which is why you can't move.Â

I’ve always read or heard people say that’s what sleep paralysis really is but I tend to agree with the second half of your post. When I was a kid, the house I was living in was extremely haunted with dark energies and entities. I saw them firsthand and dealt with them taking over things like one of my dolls. One day in broad daylight, a black mass “demon” was hovering over my dad while he was napping. I was absolutely petrified! I was used to seeing things on my own because I’ve always had different experiences no one else could validate or see but this house had episodes where others witnessed it too. (Come to find out in my adult years, the family was actually into really dark stuff and was basically a cult so it makes sense) Anyway, I dealt with sleep paralysis there and that’s the only house I’ve ever experienced it in. I personally believe, at least for my experiences of it, that it was a demon or multiple entities that were holding me down and/or blocking my throat from screaming. Sometimes I could feel it blocking just my throat but could move. Other times I couldn’t move at all as if it was holding me down. Think of the movie Darkness Falls where the tooth fairy is hovering over waiting for them to pull the blanket down. It was like that. I do not believe it’s just our bodies being still asleep…but that’s just me.Â
With the doll, I had an adorable doll that would giggle and talk or maybe even sing. I don’t remember for sure. I was about 7. I was on the top bunk with my baby brother as we were trying to go to sleep. You know how kids are tho so we were giggling and having fun. Suddenly my doll goes from its normal sweet voice to a deeper scary voice. I started shaking it for some reason thinking it would help. Idk. It kept doing it so I threw it as we screamed. My dad came up the stairs to see what was going on. He laughed and claimed it was just the batteries going out. Well he took the batteries out and it still kept doing the dark, creepy voice. He ended up running downstairs with it and smashing it to pieces freaking out too. I know that’s a bit off topic for my response but it goes with the dark energies aspect.Â

I agree with the traveling through timelines and dimensions theory. Because I have been trying to practice it till I got scared out of it I no longer try every night only once in a while. I never had sleep paralysis up until 4 years ago now I have it every other month. Every time I have it I forget my dream and I always remember my dreams, I love to keep a dream journal handy. I heard sleep paralysis beings are entities eating your dreams. I believe this bc I have dreams that sometimes predict what will happen or tell me something about someone in my life. It's never exactly like my dream but the key points are always accurate. So I truly believe that when I have discovered something in my dreams that I'm not supposed to know these demons come and take it from me. It is usually a dark figure in the corner of my room that reaches up to the ceiling. One time I saw a green blob on the side of my bed along with a tall black one in the corner of my room. I'm sorry for anyone that goes thru it on daily basis bc it really sucks!
