Topic: Mindless Social Media

Yes, I can only recommend. Even though, as a gen y, living in the wild east, sometimes I need some escape from the real world. But I think socmed has grown on people so much, mainly after 2020, it’s become toxic and harmful. So this is the best thing you could do.

doom scrolling was such a drug to me and i didn't even know it, spent many years just sitting on my chair looking at my phone like a lobotomized corpse. Been looking into other hobbies to satisfy my interests instead of wasting my life on videos that are rubbish.

I applied to some job forums in my local area to hope i could some funds for once i move out.

Definetly. I deleted TikTok years ago, and I couldn't tell you how much that helped me at the time.  I still try to make strides in deleting social media that isn't like, extremely needed for me to contact my loved ones. + Then trying to spend time off of the same social media if I'm not talking with loved ones.

Doesn't mean you have to, though!! It can be great for your health, but your life is up to you. Live it best you can with the people around you, social media or not. (I mean, Spacehey is technically a social media too, no? Lol.)

i haven't totally stopped using it but i did get a flip phone, so now whenever i post something on instagram or catch up with what people are doing its on my computer, the "form factor" of a phone mixed with that type of mindless entertainment really does just make you feel worse, i used to stay up late at night and fall down rabbit holes and freak myself out. now instead of spending hours doom scrolling before bed i am playing games with friends or drawing, i agree that the lack of social media and all that really does a person good. since i got the flip phone i feel like a different person almost.

I have a serious love/hate relationship with social media. It's a nice tool to help promote my music but on the other hand I get stuck on Facebook or TikTok for hours. No good reason other than the old, "I'll just watch one more video". Then there's just how toxic it's all become. You got people who are way too comfortable saying things to people that they would never say to their faces. I've dropped off of social media multiple times but like I said, it's a double-edged sword. It's a way for me to connect with fans, keep in touch with family, and promote my music. At the same time, it's exhausting seeing just how toxic people can be towards each other. I'll just be here floating in the ether.

I wish I can do it but i’m addicted. If not social media then its some games on ipad that I clearly spend hours on it. I haven’t paint or scrapbook that often anymore and I prefer to stay cooped up inside.

Last year I tried doing a total detox, because it was my first year of collage and I was failing miserably. It was hard at first because basically everyone I know uses instagram, including my collage. So I did have to keep Instagram installed in order to find out about news and keep in contact with long distance friends, etc. But I tried disabling the reels function, and spend no more than 10 minutes using it.
I did a lot of self reflection during that time. I was able to connect with my sense of identity, go back to doing the things I really liked, started new hobbies to pass the time... Socializing became easier too (kind of ironic now that i think about it). And of course my grades went up, which was my ultimate goal. Although I've reverted a little to my usual use, I gained so much from that experience it fundamentally changed me. Of course it didn't fix everything. I still have a lot of self-improvement to do. But I recognize that making that choice was the first step in the right direction.

so yeah tots recommended
