I'm a big story guy and all of these have exceptional stories (and then there's SMITE, a MOBA lmao)

Definitely Animal Crossing New Horizons! I love it because it's relaxing and feels like an escape from real life for a little while when I'm playing it. Plus, it's just never-ending FUN, with the hundreds of villagers you can get, to the literal thousands of items you can have on your island and the endless themes you can come up with! I also love The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 for most of the same reasons. It allows me to escape life for a while and build an ideal "life", even if it's just temporary. I also really like Mario Kart 8! Even if I'm not terribly great at it, it's still fun!

No matter how many times I revisit the Halo series; I just can never tire of it. I'm not sure what exactly about the series that I enjoy so much, but hell I wouldn't have it any other way.

Easily Morrowind, I've play an unhealthy amount of it via OpenMW and then put more time into working with mods and the expansion content, there's always something new to discover.

Second would probably be Diablo 2, one of the first PC games I've played and still replay it to this day.

Lastly, would be MGS4, simply by how much content is in that game. I've easily put 200 hours into it and still revisiting it via emulation I've found new mechanics and different ways to play it. The same could be said with MGSV as I've recently discovered the mods and have started playing some community-made missions.

mario and luigi bowser's inside story, Goldensun 1 and 2, terraria, and halo ce.
I usually rant about some of these games but i think summarizing would just be easier.

mario and luigi bowser's inside story: im sure plenty of games so it isnt as cool but i always thought how fighting in the game was just so fun. I always enjoy turn based games but having the damage and how well an attack does based on your own actions just makes it much more fun. I replayed the final fight over and over again when i was younger because of how fun the fight was and just the music.

Goldensun 1 and 2 (goldensun and goldensun lost age): I never played a lot of gameboy games back then I only ever had a few, but seeing the effects of goldensun compared to the other gameboy games i had just played was just so cool to me, but just splitting the game and continuing the story they way it did was just great. I ended up getting dark dawn later, and as fun as i had it was unfortunately i thought it wasnt as fun as the first 2, and unlike how the first game ended just seeing to be continued really just bothered me. ill just stop myself before it gets longer.

Terraria: its just really fun, i had got the mobile version back in middle school because I thought it was really cool, I later got it for pc played it to moon lord and playing with all the stuff the actual game had and it was just great. After the "final" update i replayed it and ended up getting all the achievements. As fun as it is, i do think the slow start is kind of dull but other then that i really cant complain about the game, the mods are also really great and hoping to mess with them again once Tmodloader updates.

Halo ce: This is just nostilgia, when i sat in my room alone playing on my brother's pc back then and just playing my first game solo. I had always got help from my older brother or just not do it alone. except for halo. i remembered how scared i got finding the Flood and it was just the scariest thing to me. I still managed and when i finally finished it i was so happy. i ended up playing with mods and hacks just to play with in campaign. with Halo mcce coming out i finally got to play the other games (besides reach and 4 but i already played 4 on my 360 with my older brother) and the other games are also fine. I do really love halo CE but i think halo 3ODST has to be my fav for just how i played it. spending 12 hours in one day looking for all the audio logs and getting the little changed ending. I just loved it, and think the way of getting secret logs in ODST is way better then the other halos as i usually only ever got like 2-3 secrets in the other halos, but thats just a me issue. i do think it wouldnt make sense to have just hints like they do in ODST in the other ones but just, small hints would have been cool.

This year my favourite game so far has been Chicory: A colorful tale.

I'm someone who works a job which has a lot of creative and technical burnout, and Chicory was just such a phenomenal game for coming to terms with and understanding burnout.

You basically just run around in a zelda style adventure at your own pace, and you get to paint everything with a paintbrush.

There are bossfights, and they're kinda like Undertales bullet hell style bossfights but with a paintbrush. Those are the only combat moments, and the rest of the game is a very chill puzzle/story based adventure.

I played it on PS5 but it's on PC and now Switch :)

My favorites are going to have to be:

1. Adventures of Lolo/Eggerland (The whole series): They are really fun puzzle games, and really difficult too like they make you feel like you're cheating, but it's just the mechanics of the game.

The first game is available on the Nintendo Switch online if you want a taste of the series, and the rest of the Adventures of Lolo series is on the NES, but to go deeper into Eggerland territory you usually have to pirate, or import the rest of series to get it in the US.

2. Sonic Adventure 1/Sonic 3 & Knuckles: I think these two have the best stories in all the Sonic series, and I don't think anything will ever top them in that department, but there's something fun about gliding around as Knuckles and exploring open worlds with him.

I do however enjoy the rest of the Sonic series the good, and even the really bad games, something about Sonic, makes the bad games way funnier than they should be.

3. Dragon Quest Builders 2: This is my one of my favorite games I played recently, it's sort of like Minecraft but it has a story, furniture, and little towns you can build that function. It's really fun to build for the little people of your town.

However, skip Dragon Quest Builders 1, it's a lot more clumsy than Dragon Quest Builders 2 and it's best to play number 2 first and then roll back to 1.

I better limit it to three or else i'll have a wall of text.

A couple odd ones, but I love Dino Crisis and I used to play this arena fighting game called War of the Monsters for PlayStation 2 as a kid. That game was really sweet!! I'd love to hear if anyone else played that game back in the day and what you thought of it? As a fighting game fan nowadays, I believe that game is the root of my fascination along with Super Smash Bros. Melee.
