In spite of my better knowledge I would like to tell y’all about a game from my people. I’m Inuit from the Ittaliurvik region of Nunavut. Ittaliurvik means “Place where people make tents” in my native tongue. The game being called Qiarvaaqtuq in Ittaliurvik is a form of entertainment where two women or two children stand facing towards each other and use their throats to make resonate sounds by inhaling and exhaling rapidly in an endurance contest and whoever breaks eye contact or laughs is the one who loses. Qiarvaaqtuq is also a theatrical performance where the whole community watches the spectacle and has become a sacred culture symbol.

The sounds are pretty silly from personal experience and you’re like half a foot from the other person piercing their soul with a stare. So it gets really hard real quick. I mean most people turn their heads to break contact.
