I'm not really sure, you could tell from the flashbacks how much she cared about sal, but seeing what 'he' did would definitely warp her vision of him. I doubt that she went against him with the intentions of him facing the death penalty

Well, I really like her, even though she testified against Sally since she didn't believe in the paranormal I think she was right in this sentence "Sal is not a bad person, he just needs HELP"

Honestly I like her, she thought what she was doing by testifying against him was right and I can respect her for that and I also like how she said Sal isn't a bad person he just needs help

I don't like her, I haven't finished the game for myself yet but from what I've seen it's like why should I like her a know, and a lot of her fans make it even harder to like her. They defend her with everything they got for no reason :/

i have no strong opinion on her, but i dont get why people hate her, considering if anyone was in the position of seeing their friend become a serial killer (at least in your eyes) you would do the same

she gets a lot of hate, and I can see why but I also understand why she did what she did. It's understandable to not believe the whole ghosts and evil cult thing, and even when she was testifying against sally she was just hoping they would help him. also girlboss behavior.

I think that she simply did not give importance to the subject, and did not want to be involved, which makes the character, in my opinion, very human...

I have mixed feelings. I feel like a lot of her personality was written to be... Just... "Woman." Which is a pet peeve I have in writing.
She's undeniably a sweet person, but I have a Lot of problems with her role in the story. She takes off Sal's prosthetic despite him protesting it (which is, like, majorly bad to do to someone with a prosthetic). Also, her testifying against Sal in court ruins a lot of her character for me. She really didn't need to give speculative evidence. She could have (should have!) testified based on what she KNEW happened. It was cruel for her to testify like she did against Sal!
Basically, Ash is ableist against Sal. ('Ableism' is discrimination towards those with disabilities; Sal's disfigurement would count as a disability.) She directly contributes to the systematic ableism in the court system by testifying against Sal, and removes his disability aid, which is a part of Sal that he has rights over! I don't think she was written to be ableist, but honestly that doesn't really change the facts about what she does >>;
Buuut I'm sure you didn't want a rant about the systematic ableism in place in the court system against those with disfigurements and disabilities when you posted this. ALL OF THIS TO SAY... Ash is kind, and a good person. She's good and important for Sal, but she does injustices to him. Her character feels half-baked (possibly because she's a female character) and she's also ableist (intentionally-written or not). I think that her 'half-baked'-feeling writing is why she's such a polarizing figure, though.

She's okay but the shit with Sal protesting against Ashley taking off his prothstecic is horrible. Especially if that person is scared of others seeing what they look like.

I think she gets blamed way too much for things far out of her control. I think we should be blaming the literal CULT for most of the things the fandom blames her for lmao

I like her, for the most part. I hate how the creators waited until later chapters to expand on her personality and character, though. For a bit, she was only just "the kind alt girl that Sal likes" and that deterred us from finding her to be likeable. The lengths she goes to for her friends in the last chapter does makes up for that, though. - Mortis

mixed emotions to be fr. i honestly just don't understand why she testified against him despite knowing the paranormal side of the apartments. i understand she didn't go on many adventures with them but she was part of the bologna discovery *and* fell into the cults main meeting area, she couldn't refuse that sal had his reasons without just lying to herself.

I like her. Even though she wasn't really on Sal's side in the trials, she just needed proof and she just wanted to help him. Honestly, if i was the judge and a grown man came in talking about how he killed them to save them from a cult, i don't think that he owuld belive that, no matter if ash did or didn't help Sal

She's alright. I don't hate her but I don't think much of her. It's understandable that she wouldn't really believe Sal bc she didn't believe in paranormal stuff. It also makes sense that she would testify against Sal since he did kill a bunch of people. Plus she was against him getting the death penalty. So I don't really hate her but she just isn't my favorite, I just don't care for her that much.

As a character, I honestly think she's the most boring of the bunch :(( she deserved better tbh, the most important thing we really get from her is the lake scene with sal, since she was literally knocked out for the entirety of the bologna incident. In chapter 5, we play as her but honestly? Even then its still about sal (it should be, but we never get her true opinions on a lot of the stuff) yk???
Also, she had a whole 3 years to check out whether or not sal was telling the truth for herself.. why'd it take her so long?? I get it, she really believed he had just gone crazy or was severely traumatized but like-- she had 3 YEARS. i still don't hate her, and I hope in sally face 2 we get more on her and what she was thinking in that ENTIRE time skip T-T
Also, I think her personality (as someone else in this forum mentioned) was written to just be "woman" or sals love interest. The most personality they gave her is a motorcycle and being a "baddie." Whatever inner emotions she goes through in the entirety of the game is with her brother (if i remember correctly)/moving back from the city and that happens OFF SCREEN. We don't get to see how she reacted to leaving her friends, and everything that happened following sal killing everyone is just "told, not shown." ykwim? everything just seems half-baked when it comes to her, and that kinda sucks. She could have played a much bigger role but nothing is really done to make her a "likeable" character. Even when she almost sacrifices herself for Sal.
I'm not upset at her character, I'm upset at the way she was written, and we can clearly tell through larry and todd (and even fkn gizmo) that even their "side protags" can be written EXTREMELY well and be realllly likeable. I'm tired of ash's developments always happening off-screen and during time skips, it just makes no sense, i shouldn't have to connect the dots following the skips on what happened to her you know? it should've been basically implied.... :(((
off-topic: but I also wish that sal comes back to life in his physical form in sally face 2... bc what is sally face without sal?? lol super excited btw, i hope a release date turns up soon!!!!

Hate. No word other than 'hate' can describe my feelings towards her. Every morning, every evening and every night I look at her decriped picture that I have printed and spit into her face.
In no life or moment of purity would I give her my forgiveness, in no moment of love in my small dark heart would I ever let my ever lasting grudge go.
I wish no harm or pain on her, why? Because my hate and fury towards her is enough torture for her.
Each night I get closer to her, and she knows it. She lays awake in bed, unable to close her forest coloured eyes, knowing that I am coming, that I am stalking behind her.
She can't escape the journey set in stone, she cannot take back the pain she caused me, and therefore, I will cause her that pain. That agony, that anguish that she gave me, that she bequeath upon me.
As I stand outside her door, my mind races with memories of the betrayal that ignited the flames of this unrelenting hatred. It's not just a desire for revenge; it's a thirst for the justice that was denied to me, an insatiable need to balance the scales that were tipped by her callous actions.
Anyways, I kinda hate her, idk if you can tell

I like her, she did what she did because she thought she was helping Sal. And I totally respect that, she very clearly did not intend to do what she did so I think she's rad.

i get why she did what she did. she was a scared kid in over her head, and relatively normal compared to the boys. she also had way less time to get accustomed to the idea of paranormal stuff going down. also she has a motorcycle, that's pretty cool :)

If I were in Ashley's situation and found out that my friend committed mass murder and his reasonings was because he "had" to because a cult and shit, I wouldn't believe him either at first. But I was at least glad to see when she got Larry's ghost's picture she ran as fast as she could to try to save him from being executed (She could've investigated before the fact but still). She was still his close friend and cared about him a lot when they were younger. Not sure if I agree with the people who ship them together tho

She honestly doesn't deserve the hate she gets.
Aside from the OBVIOUS misogyny against her character, she gets shit on constantly for standing up against sal in court when she wasn't trying to get him sent to prison or having him face death penalty, she wholeheartedly believed he wasn't mentally ok and she wanted him to get help, and it was said multiple times throughout the game
The scene at the lake says a LOT about her relationship with sal, she wouldn't purposefully try to get him evicted. And after getting evidence she rushed to save Sal but couldn't and that's not on her, it's all the cult's fault
They needed sal dead and not even ash would be able to stop that, especially since she didn't know that half of Nockfell, even the police, couldn't be trusted
You can't blame her for not believing in the whole ghosts thing cuz honesty who would? She redeemed herself in the end and stopped the cult
AND LOST ALL HER FRIENDS and had to live with the remains of what happened
Do not even get me started on Larry's ghost, she didn't know what would happen if she burned the treehouse, he TOLD her to do it
And honesty i just don't think she deserves all the hate, she's just as much of the cult's victim as the whole gang had been
