I think it depends on what you believe in.For example if your christian then you'll go to heaven or hell.If your buddhist then you'll go through rebirth I think (sorry I only know a little about buddhism). If your an atheist then you'll gp wherever you think you go when you die.I think it all depends on your mindset and there's no one places just like how believe there's no one god.

id love to believe there's this other-world we enter, where we can see our passed loved ones again and spend eternity in happiness. id also love to believe in reincarnation, and our souls are taken to other bodies to live once again. id love to believe in spirits roaming the earth, looking for their purpose. i think there's so many different ideas on what can happen when you die, and not knowing is almost the best part. you can believe anything and live blissfully in knowing you'll go to heaven, or become a sea witch in some sort of bog in a different universe. it's beautiful to believe in anything.

This a common but very useless question because it demands the thinker to ask WHY to natural phenomenon asserting that there needs to be a reason and life cannot just simply be.
The reason there's a million different answers is because nobody will ever know for sure therefore rendering it useless

debating about metaphysics is a pure act of circlejerk. This idealism distracts us from material reality and how humans make decisions based on their first material conditions and knowledge of these conditions second. I bring this up because you can't morally justify eternal afterlife in hellfire over petty "decisions" that are controlled to where and when you were born

"You will go to hell if you don't chose my prophet!!"

The job of a philosopher is to change the world anything other is ideas for idea's sake

You are reincarnated back into your own life, which you live all over again. You will make all the same choices, love and hate all the same people, have the same failures and triumphs. You have done this before, and you will do it again for eternity.

Or, more likely, you just die.

I heard about "pan(en)theism" and I think that fits me. I believe in the "totality" of things, the universe, etc.

To me our flesh will decay, become the resource the earth needs to thrive. Our souls or energy will probably go back into the universe or to our Creator, God, etc... like a giant bowl of souls waiting to be reincarnated into something else perhaps. Our souls might be put to use somewhere in the universe and not necessarily on Earth too.

I don't believe in eternal punishment or eternal paradise. Or I'm not sure what to make of these concepts yet but yeah.

I think it depends on our belliefs, ive heard or read from people that die for seconds that either they go to a place similar to heaven and see their passed away loved ones or they say they go to a distant place like the whole universe in a kind of like a reversed camera POV. So i have the feeling that our consciousness make a place for us to rest or tries to make it similar to what we have thought our whole lives.

It is my belief that we move into a state of energy that we know as the soul/spirit, depending on attachment and belief system in life, that energy can persist without a physical form, /these are all your myths of ghosts and hauntings/. But if the spirit does go on, they go to what they believed in life, all these things are aspects of the same source, but we view them differently, and they are both good and bad, such that the source is both Heaven and Hell, Valhalla and Hel, Olympus and Hades, ect.. (apologies if i spelled something wrong) But in these places we... remix, we meld and reform, in this place all is one and one is all. In this way we are somewhat caught in the cycle that Buddhists talk of. But I don't see this as a negative like that system of belief does. I think it is wonderful, that we can commune with the All for a time and that we choose how and when to come back and in what way. We do this for ourselves and for others, to share something as simple as time with those we knew before but have no memory of, and to forge new bonds with others. I don't particularly believe we have a "mission" per-say such as convert X number of souls, or save So and so from doing Y thing. But that we are bringing more opportunities for ourselves and others to experience and grow from.

I simplify it like so, 'at its purest form energy never ends, it changes, light, and sound , radiation and electricity... all are energy but no two are the same, same too of souls, we are all energy in a vast network of connections and options, through life we share and learn and in the end complete a circuit, upon death we return to the source and blend in with the All, and begin the cycle over again taking new paths and effecting and being effected by new things, all the wile helping those around us. We are not trapped in this cycle we are free to explore it and grow in it and through it.'

Maybe I watched FMA too much as a kid or, maybe my mom was too loose with my learning of multiple theology's teachings... all I know is this brings me peace and makes me think that whatever happens I need not worry over a wrathful god awaiting me, I need only live such a life that I feel I have done what I can to help and minimized the suffering and pain of my fellow soul.

My philosophy on this is a sort of wager.

If we die and have some sort of afterlife then great.

if we die and are reincarnated then cool

if we die and nothing happens (we just cease to exist) i wont be conscious enough anymore to care so idk

if we use and become part of the universe of something then cool idm

I never understood the debate/concern over this and I've been told I'm shallow for that, I don't think I am at least lol. Fear of death doesn't make sense, because we will be busy with being dead when it is time for our lives to end so idc. Fear of the unknown is where I think the fear really lies. Personally idm what happens because as I said above it could go any way and I would be chill with it. It's like 2 AM and I haven't taken my meds so please excuse my rambling.

Reincarnation makes the most sense to me, even under a hardline secular materialistic world view. Believers in the "nothing happens" theory always say that being dead is going to be like before you were born, so nothingness. But there's one major flaw with this argument, how do you know that there really was nothing before you were born? If reincarnation is like starting a new game in a video game, then it's safe to assume you would lose all your memories from your previous life, so who's to say the second you died in your previous life, you didn't just wake up in this new one with all your old memories gone? Of course this is an unfalsifiable argument since you can't prove it or disprove it, but the same thing applies to the "nothing happens" theory, it's not something you can prove or disprove.

What really convinced me of reincarnation is this simple thought experiment: if dying means going back to nothingness, that would imply I was already dead for millions of years before I was born, but if that's the case, that means I was able to go from nothingness to being alive. If I was able to do that once, why couldn't I do it again? Maybe it will take another million years but if my consciousness came into existence out of nothingness once then I believe it can happen again. Either I'm born again some time in the future, or whenever our universe resets (many scientists believe the universe will one day start shrinking back into a singularity and from that singularity the big bang will happen all over again) I'll be born again in that other universe.

Finally, there's the issue of what "are" you. Are "you" just a moving bag of flesh, or are "you" the brain piloting said bag of flesh, or maybe what "you" are is an abstract concept that could theoretically be transferred into any organism, or maybe there is there no real "you" and what "you" are could be replicated at any other time and place. There's only two possible answers for this, and both answers lead me to believe that at the very least death isn't the end. Answer one is you are not a unique entity. If this is true, that would mean your existence is not tied down to the time and space you were born. You could've been born hundreds of times throughout history because you're not a unique entity. Answer two is that you are a unique entity and thus there can only exist one of you. You might think this disproves reincarnation, but it doesn't, because if there's only one of you and there can't exist any other yous, then you can't die! It's impossible! Death at that point would be the next step in whatever happens. It might be reincarnation, or it might be something else entirely, or it might really be nothingness in which case I'll be too unconscious to care.

Hey, what if instead of heaven or hell or reincarnation there’s just only emptiness waiting for us, no eternal happiness, no cruel punishment and fire, just emptiness and what if all the good things we did to go to heaven was all for nothing? What if all the horrible thing we did get no punishment and all we get is just eternal emptiness waiting for us after death? What then?

i like to think that satan is the good one bc i heard evry time that the good will show like evil to scary the evil and the evil will show like they are good to fool you

and if is this way than it s logic who is the real creatior and who is the evil one

i read a lot of philosphy in the realm of existentialism and post-modernism, and I sort of just lie around and think a lot. i read a study once somewhere, a while ago, about how death is so traumatising to the body that the brain tries to calm you, and shows you whatever you wish to see in order to bring some peace to the experience. it really stuck with me and became apart of my sort of lexicon of thought. i deal with a lot of loneliness, a lot of uncomfortable things that are hard to live with and when I think of death I hope it's just a black room. i'd like to think it is a dark room, where nothing ever happens.

this is an interesting perspective on it:

Ouhhh I love this question...

I think that everybodys experience in the afterlife is different.

Basically, you as the soul that you are will be completely alone because this is what I think can you call "true peace".

Also, I think you get into a specific scene which is created by your subconcious mind.
Which means it creates a visual world of everything you loved from birth to death.
You could say it creates an individual planet of the memories and dreams you could feel in your life.

I can´t think of THE ONE WORLD, where everyone get´s when they die.

BUTTTT what could definetly be is that "you become what you believe to become".
If you think that you get to heaven, you will get to heaven. If you just die in emptiness you will be in an empty state.
The core is that what you believe will become truth.

Nobody can assert with 100% certainty what happens after death.

It is important to note that death is one of those things that has two separate meanings. On one hand death can refer to the actual passing of someone. The act of becoming lifeless itself is death at that point the answer is "clear" once you are no longer alive you have died and that act of "dying" is done.

On the other hand dying has been associated to a more "profound" and "soothing" notion that once you die you move onto something else. This deathless death is common is most religions. The idea of "life after death" and "reincarnation" have been themes explored in societies for so long that they have, to some extent, shaped human history (religious wars, storytelling etc...)

Personally, I think that as a species part of our peculiar habit of questioning everything around us and not being happy with the answer is part of the reason why we are "enamored" by the idea of being destined to some great unknown after death.

Death is a strange thing. And until we are willing to accept that our beliefs shape the answers we find we will never have a conclusive answer.

Hope you have a good evening,

We don't go anywhere, since we're arealdy there.

Our astral body arealdy exists and arealdy experienciates the sutile world, hence, there will be no "after here", because we're arealdy living the spiritual life.

However, we do disconnect our consciousness from this physical body and that is called "death", but we will probably reincarnate -- not because we must "pay" for something, but because we couldn't achieve gnosis and free ourselves from Samsara.

Being a good man won't make you free from this world, however, it will make light spirits favorable to help you to achieve gnosis eventually -- it's a social contract, in a sense.

you don't go to heaven or hell, you die. i'm not just saying this because i'm an atheist, it's advice for religious people, because if you're moral just for the sake of reaching heaven you will never do so. instead of following the bible, follow your categorical imperative in the off chance that heaven exists

I don't really think anything happens after we die, nor do we go anywhere. maybe our body and energy end up in different places (energy can only move and change forms, not go away), but our consciousness - gone.

Maybe we do only have one life.
