I am still undiagnosed, but i am on the waiting list.
it came up in January, when we we're doing fake exams in the hall. I usually do well on tests but on most of them during this i got below 50%. So, my mum and my dad were discussing why and my mum brought up autism, which fits best with how i am. My mum wrote up all the stuff about me like "organising my toys when i was younger" and "never liked change" to the neurodivergency thing, and they said i need to be assessed urgently.
So, I don't know if i'm autistic, but i do think i am.

I was diagnosed when I was 12/13, not sure if that's considered like late but I think it is lmao. Ironically I literally had to literally ask/be really persistent about being assessed for it and was aware of it before being diagnosed.

I currently self diagnose due to lack of money (Living in the USA is a pain in my butt :P) but I would say I started doing so around the beginning of this year actually. I started after one of my friends who I had been around for about 3 - 4 months was absolutely shocked that I WASNT autistic because they just assumed I had it. I had already been doing some research into it since I started noticing my cousin acted a lot like I did at his age and i was like "maybe thats not something that most people would relate to" but after a close friend of mine just kinda ASSUMED I had it for like 4 months thats when i went "ok yeah maybe im not just pretending I have it"

Only a couple years ago I started having a suspicion I was autistic. I hadn't thought much of it until then as I've had a couple autistic friends and felt I wasn't like them. Though it turns out it surfaces in different ways for different people. Recently I've come across some old documents from my childhood about some significantly asocial behavior from my toddler years and now I'm pretty certain I have it, it just explains too much for the diagnosis to not be there. Hyperfixating on subjects, infodumping, the years of sheer effort of learning how to act in ways, both verbal and non-verbal, to make others feel comfortable - its all there.
When life slows down, I really would like to get formally diagnosed. Until then, I've been journaling my history and stories from past caretakers as the closest thing I have to evidence.

I got professionally diagnosed when I was 16 or 17. I wish it happened sooner because high-school was rough for me without any IEP and i almost didnt graduate because of how many classes i was failing, speaking of which, if you have had an IEP, how was it?

It had always been a joke with my family and friends that i was 'special', and then I only really properly thought about it like last year-ish (I'm 16 and afab) I talked to my mum about it and she said "Oh your definitely on the spectrum, but I don't think you need a diagnosis. You just need to learn to live with your quirks !" Which is kinda annoying.

i wanna say i was..,, 13? well, thats when i started thinking about it an recognized some of the symptoms in myself. im not formally diagnosed, mostly because while my momma agrees i fit the criteria and would very likely get the diagnosis if i were to be evaluated, we agree i don't really need the dx at this point in my life.

I am going by self-diagnosis for 2 years already since I was 19 y.o. And uhhh I think it actually literally saved my life
I tried to mask really hard since 11-12 and it was a disaster, it was an impossible task for me, lol. I wish I knew sooner bc I really couldn't make any stable relationships. So due to thinking "it is me" in a bad way and not even knowing what's wrong, bad things happened and happened, so I was diagnosed with really bad depression. and ONLY when I started to do research about adhd and autism it finally "started to make sense". and my friends now understand me better too, so at least my problems with maintaining relationships and other people's bad attitude kinda got away. well, maybe not entirely, but at least it got better. it's a pity tho I can't look for diagnosis due to situation with neurodivergences in my country (adults can't get adhd & autism diagnoses officially and also it rans by ICD-10, not ICD-11 or DSM-5)

fairly recently, maybe around 23?? im self-dx. as a kid, several teachers told my parents it might be beneficial to get me screened for autism, but they didn't want to (my dad bc he doesn't trust doctors in general and my mom because she didn't want a diagnosis of anything to hold me back). neither of them told me about any of this until very recently. I wish i had been made aware sooner, i just feel like a lot of things would have made more sense.

I was professionally diagnosed at 19, but everyone around me (except my parents..) had been telling them that I was probably autistic since I was 5, it hurts a bit to know that life could've been much easier and I wouldn't have had to go through so much pain if I was just diagnosed earlier rip
But I suppose it's good that I know now at least!! :3c

so haii! im fourteen and i think i went through a lot of trial and error before i realized i had autism, id say it was about a year or two ago, it took me explaining to soooo many professionals before someone regonized that i probably need an eval, my spin is psychology and i think ive read the autism diagnostic criteria about 15 times. I almost got the eval appt, but my insurance didnt answer, I was notified that if they didnt answer the appt would be about 3000 usd, so i guess i self diagnosed officially like a few months ago, but ive known for a hot minute

I was diagnosed when I was about 40
I realised I was autistic a few years earlier, with the help of the insight of a friend who knew me when I was young
My focus with getting diagnosed was getting access to a specialist, I'd heard plenty of horror stories and just wanted to get referred to a specialist without a generalist gatekeeping with nonsense like you can't be autistic you can make eye contact and make conversation that isn't about your special interest - I could have coped with being told that I wasn't autistic by someone who knew what they were talking about - so anyway I got a referral and I had no trouble convincing the specialist.

I was diagnosed at 4, I think, and I was the last child to get tested. This was mainly because girls are apparently (?) harder to diagnose, but I’m glad it was done at an earlier age! :3

i'm pretty sure i realized i was autistic at around 13. a lot of my friends r autistic but i guess i never looked into it cause i thought a lot of my own behaviors were just normal & not actually symptoms of autism. fast forward maybe a yr or so and i'm in therapy when my therapist catches on & starts asking me abt symptoms. she pretty much confirmed it LOL but she said in my country they don't rlly diagnose unless it's a more severe(???) case & the kid needs more accomodations in school than i do. it was pretty freeing & i was rlly happy that day that someone noticed lol

got diagnosed around when i was four thankfully, i have heard lots of stories of people getting diagnosed late and maybe even getting confused on their own behaviour until later on, which is really bad sometimes
