"Night on the Galactic Railroad" (1985) is a slow and thoughtful anime. It is based on a children's fantasy novel by Kenji Miyazawa, but it is so filled with symbolism that I doubt any child could truly grasp its full essence. Also I lovee that protagonists (and other characters) are anthropomorphic cats. I wrote a brief analysis of this anime, but unfortunately, it is in russian. Actually, the first dragon ball show is prtty funny n cool, u should watch it (ignore the sigma males saying that dbs is better n all that, the first show is hella cute honestly)

For me it's Cobra(1982), bc I used to watch it with my dad when I was little, so yeah the reason I say that is mostly emotional and it's also because my dad introduced anime to me with this! :3

City hunter is a must watch, every episode has a plot twist and a nice moral. I would recomand if you already like detective conan, ace attorney, cat eyes, or anything with drama and fun. The contast between the serious storyline and the silly quirks of each caracteres makes it really enjoyable. solid 10/10 to watch while drawing or cooking !

If u are into the Devil may cry series or want to get into Dmc and u wait for the new anime to come out then u should watch Devil May Cry: The Animated Series (2007) I'm a dmc fan myself and i love the 2000's so imo it was pretty good, U should check it out! 

i love trigun its the perfect mix of silly banter and a serious story line and the characters designs look amazing

Alien 9 is a great underseen OVA! it's really heavy, so be warned if you're not up for that, but it resonated with me very much

not a shoujo…but its been a fav of mine since 2010!! >_<

ROSARIO VAMPIRE!! Its a pretty good manga & has 2 seasons & 24 volumes in total

the anime gives it ZERO justice..do not watch it,, its overly fan servicy & doesnt even include all of the volumes..but the manga is peak trust me on this

(still a little fan servicey but u can look past it since its a literal harem manga.. though it doesnt seem like 1 75% of the time)

One I recommend is perfect blue. It's a psychological horror/should and really good

Oran high school host club is really great if u like slice of life/shojuo animes or perfect blue if u like horror/thrillers!

ALIEN 9!! Alien 9 (Or Alien Nine, depending on how you want to type it) Is CRIMINALLY underrated. Despite it being a short anime, it's still an amazing watch!

 

Gunslinger Girl!! It's one of my faves from the early 2000s. I went into it expecting a generic action anime but it has some very interesting themes and characters!

ASHITA NO JOEEEEEEE

watch the 1970 one, then after episode 51 you can choose to keep watching, or you can move onto the 1980 version. the 1970 version has a lot of passion put into it, the filler is enjoyable and it's pretty iconic. the 1980 version has better visuals and music and wraps up the story nicely.
