I collect board games and Video games. Mostly Switch and PS4 games for the video games but I have a ton of board games.

If you go down the rabbit hole of getting into board games you should always buy online. Most shops tend to make you pay more for a game you can find online for less. Also if you don't know where to start on board games just think of your favorite board game from childhood and you can find games with way better gameplay.

With video games you kind of just know what you like by what you played in the past as well.

I've definitely been into video game collecting most of my life. It started with my grandma encouraging me to keep what I have growing up so I could play the same games again and get even better at them.

I sold a lot of stuff when emulators came into my life, but regretted it a bit later and re-collected most of the stuff.

I also learned that not all games are good enough to spend money on, especially when you don't have time to play it all. Why buy every sports game or kid's educational game just to have a full set when it means not having some other great game on a newer system instead? Space is limited and those little filler titles begin to add up.

So I've gained the stance that it's best to collect things you really enjoy. Even if you limit it to that, depending on what your home setup is or other hobbies you may have (i.e. I'm a musician), you could even run out of room there. The actual gaming aspect has become more important to me, but I still like acquiring more games when I can.

As far as what I collect goes, all video game systems from Atari 2600 to present. (Not a big fan of what came before Atari 2600. Fairchild Channel F had like 1 game I really liked - Dodge It. But I'd rather emulate it than have that system just for that.

I've been trying to collect every ps2 game released in my region that hasn't been banned lol.

Besides that I used to love collecting figures, manga, and trading cards.

Was heavily into pokemon, yugioh, digimon, wixoss, dragon ball, .hack, zatch bell, duel masters, force of will and a few other cards games I can't remember on the top of my head.

Storage wise I put my game disc in a CD storage case for portability and the cases are packed in a box and put in the garage. If the games are limited edition the case is put on display on a shelf.

For trading cards I put them in the usual binder and dupes are placed in a box for possible trading [which never happens/no one to trade with] lol

My main gem in my collection is my Dreamcast games.

I bought my first Dreamcast in 2014 at my local shop for $40 and it was the Sega Sports black edition, now this fetches around $90 today. I modded the console to have a CMOS battery holder so it can keep track of the time and date. I did that so I could play Seaman the way it was intended. I fucking love this console, it's criminally underrated.

I collect stuff from other consoles like the PS2, Switch, N64, PS3, and PS1 but none of them are as big as my Dreamcast collection.

I do have a couple of SNES, Genesis, Gamecube, 360, 3DS, DS, and one DOS game on a floppy.

Here's a list of Dreamcast games I got:
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Cool Cool Toon (JP)
Crazy Taxi (no case)
Grandia 2
Jet Grind Radio (NA)
Jet Set Radio (JP)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Rez (JP)
Seaman w/ Big Box and Microphone
Shenmue x2
Shenmue 2 (PAL)
Sonic Adventure
Time Stalkers
Soul Caliber
Tomb Raider Chronicle
Zombie Revenge (JP)
Illbleed (case and manual is a reproduction, disc is original)
E.G.G.: Elemental Gimmick Gear (reproduction)
Jet Set Radio (JP)
Jet Grind Radio (NA)
Blue Stinger (No case)
Dino Crisis (no case)
Tom Clancy's: Rainbow Six (no case)
The House of The Dead 2
Sega Bass Fishing (JP, with box with fishing peripheral pictured below)
Crazy Taxi 2
Carrier
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (no case)

EDIT: Images were too big and Idk if there is a spoiler tag to hide them unless you click on it. so sowwy

I've got a decent collection of PlayStation 2 titles, in my opinion it's one of the most interesting computers from a technical standpoint and I think some the best videogames ever made are on it. I've also got a mini-SNES for my classic RPG fix. I love point and click adventure games from the 90s as well, my first computer was a 233mhz Pentium II so naturally I have all the classic Pajama Sam games as well as new in box copies of Myst and Riven beside 9ne The Last Resort and The Journeyman project. I've got copies of Fallout 1 and 2 laying around somewhere as well.

I collect action figures, plushies, video games, manga, anime, movies (VHS, DVD, Blu Ray), books, magazines, and finally, Pokemon cards (TCG, Topps).

Some tips I can give you:

  • Always Check eBay and Mercari:
    • make sure to check the item thoroughly, though if its a stock photo message the seller
      • Request more photos - especially for video games, you want to look for scratches
      • Don't buy with heavy deep scratches - light scratches are okay.
  • For electronics, make sure every last cable is in the photo and works - you don't want to buy any electronic that has any damaged cables.
  •  Avoid Scalpers at all Times:
    • They lurk primarily on the internet but can also be found at conventions
    • They will price hike collectibles through the ass
    • While on eBay, weigh your options, and make sure you have found the best price
    • Do NOT give them your money - they deserve nothing
  • Organize Your Collection:
    • As your collection grows, keep track of your collection - whether with spreadsheets (Google) or pictures you post on social media.
    • You don't want to double buy a collectible twice
If you have any questions, you - along with anybody, really - can reply to this comment. Hope this helps, enjoy the hobby! :)

I love collecting physical games! My collection is mainly for PS4/X360 but I also have some cool retro stuff from Dreamcast and PC.

My tip to collectors is to ARCHIVE (and share if you're confortable) your collection. Specially if you're outside of north hemisphere and had official events/ports/content in your language. There is so much stuff that is unknown and/or lost. Archiving and sharing can make a huge difference!

I've been 'collecting' since 2009. But I wouldn't say i'm a hardcore collector since I just decide to buy physical of games I want to play. That being said I have over 1000 physical games at this point for many consoles.
