i've been excluded from the emo community for multiple reasons which are RLY stupid so i'm debunking some emo stereotypes. plz comment if i missed something <3

-not all emos self harm it's rly disrespectful to ask someone for a wrist reveal just because of the way they dress/act. even if they did self harm, there's more than one type of self harming method other than cutt!ng urself plz keep that in mind and be fucken respectful.
ED
-i know that having an ed was extremely common in the emo community especially in the early 2000's where it was encouraged. it's stupid to assume that. there's more than one type of ed but of course that's overlooked. people's idea of what someone with an ed looks like is fucken sick. they assume you have an ed if you appear skinny and u happen to be emo. there shouldn't be a fucken correlation between those two. honestly if you trauma dump on people about something like an ed just so you can have their pity, do everyone a favor and kys. people have told me "don't tell someone to kts no matter the situation what if they actually do it" that's the whole point. dumping your problems on other people so you can get attention is disgusting.
"YOU CAN'T BE EMO IF YOU'RE POC"
-the extreme whitewashing that happens in the emo community is so overlooked. majority of emo people in the early myspace days were white. not saying there weren't any poc emos but it just wasn't common. gatekeeping a subculture from people who aren't white is literally racist. of course it's not all emo people who think like that but there's definitely a handful of emo people from social media who gatekeep being emo from poc.
"ALL EMOS ARE GR00MERS/PEDOPHILES"
-people can get this assumption from the infamous dahvie vanity. if you don't already know who he is, he was the lead singer in a band called blood on the dance floor (BOTDF) emo/scene kids idolized him and looked up to him. he gr00med and r4p3d multiple minor girls who idolized him in the early to mid 2000's. yes he is a horrible person, but that doesn't mean you can assume that about all emo/scene kids. he actually followed me on instagram for a while after he found out i was a minor. after i confronted him about everything he blocked me but he still gr00ms and manipulates minor girls to this day so plz be safe and don't interact w him on social media <3
FATSHAMING
-during the myspace days, if you were fat/plus size and were emo-you'd get SO MUCH hate. one of my older friends who was around during that time, said they got death threats just because they weren't as skinny as other emo people. it's still a thing today but doesn't get talked about enough. u don't need to be skinny in order to be emo !!
"YOU'RE NOT EMO IF YOU DON'T LIKE MCR"
i've been told this soooo many times. personally i just don't like bands like MCR, FOB, FIR etc. personally i think their music is soft so they're just not my style and that's ok. it's fine if u like those bands but you can't gatekeep being emo from someone just because they don't like those popular bands :p
