I heard that it had already been voted on and rejected 4 times, then it went back for a 5th vote right as some MEPs went away for summer and instead of being a vote to pass Chat Control it was a vote to reject Chat Control and those who didn't vote were counted as 'against' the proposal to reject Chat Control.
Can't have people voting incorrectly, can we now?

i don't think its necessary at all, if so it does more harm than good. this is just their lazy way of promising protection from potential creeps while also having full access to your private life. soon everything will start to be monitored and nobody will have an ounce of privacy anymore! not to mention the flock cameras too. they really could've done something else but i just hope they never pull through with that.

It's just barely disguised mass surveillance. They could not care less about the children they claim to be protecting. Somewhat "good" news is that the current Chat Control law (1.0) only gives permission to message scanning, but doesn't mandate it, and will expire in 2028. Chat Control 2.0 however would make it a legal requirement for every online conversation to be monitored. Luckily the latter has been rejected numerous times, we can only hope that doesn't change in the future.
