This philosophical question came to my mind as of lately and I've been thinking about it. I have a sibling, she's nearly 10 year's older than me. She went abroad in 2023 for college, was meant to be a year but she stayed for way longer than intended, its been 3 year's and she's still there. She's always loved history as long as I could remember.
A lot of personal stuff has happened in those 3 years where we both changed significantly as people. But the reason why I thought of this question is because I am aware it is her life, her choice and she can do whatever with it, Archaeology isn't a very stable career path. Especially for the money that our parents give for her to be studying abroad, her going on less digs now than she once did I cant help but wonder is it really worth chasing something that you love? Or chasing stability?
On one hand I understand that passion is the life of the human soul, without passion you are fundamentally a robot.
And I know I may be selfish but I worry for my future too with how much money they put into her that they wont have an awful lot left for me. What if she drains everything? What chance will I have in the world?
Another thing is that what if your dreams just dont make money? What if you have the passion and hell even the talent but the industry isn't worth it?
